My Fitbit doesn't require a phone to show my daily activity, you can read it on the device screen -you only need the app on your phone if I want to track activity over time.
This is my 4th different Fitbit, and all have been that way. If you don't have a phone, you can put the app on your tablet or computer - when I got my first one, I didn't have a smart phone, so tracked via my laptop.
