Anyone try earthing/grounding for pain relief?

That's interesting. You've got me reading up on it. I'm one of those people who has always built up static electricity easily and am nervous about touching anything metal because of the stinging zap. Some of the research looks promising. It certainly can't hurt and may even help.

I haven't tried it but it does sound like it is worth a try, especially since it doesn't really cost you anything. I did read the following caveat in a research article.

"One very important caveat of grounding is to exercise extreme caution in any patient taking Coumadin-like blood thinners as the combination of pharmaceutical blood thinning and grounding can virtually make the blood too thin. Cardiologists have seen this occurrence in their patients who were grounding and simultaneously taking blood thinners as bleeding became apparent. It is thus imperative that when patients take Coumadin-like derivatives, that they discuss earthing or grounding with their doctor to avoid the possibility of any adverse bleeding complications."

Wow, glad you mentioned the blood thinner warning, thanks John. I'll keep that in mind and read that link you gave. I may end up using natural barefoot grounding methods instead of getting a fancy contraption.

What a great movie that is, and it makes perfect sense. Our bodies are electrical and direct skin contact with the earth discharges the excess we hold and recharges the good stuff that rebalances and heals all sorts of things, including inflammation.

Years ago an old guy told me that whenever we're not feeling right, we need to ground ourselves by getting our hands in the dirt gardening. I thought he meant the effect was psychological, which it certainly can be, but this is physical and the movie shows some impressive results.

I'm starting slowly with as many short 5 minute outdoor bare-feet-on-the-ground sessions as I can manage a day in this Australian winter. Challenge accepted. Let's see if this helps PMR.

Coincidentally, I have just been reading about this and decided to risk the $50 purchase on a little mat to give it a try! I have peripheral neuropathy as well, so I find it uncomfortable to walk around barefoot - so opted for the technology. I will update the group after trying it out.

I have many autoimmune issues with SLE. Also Afib. due to valve irregularities. Probably PMR too. I've been grounding for the last few years. Where I live, it is too cold most of the year for natural grounding, so I use the Earthing Institutes mats. I have one in my bed and one in my office. I think it has been very helpful in keeping all of my symptoms at mild. It just feels good and right. No risks. ( except what I've just learned here about the blood thinner issue ) I take apixaban, so I will ask my cardio next time I see him.
Bottom line, it is natural and yes, that was a really good documentary!

Never heard of this but right off the bat I have 2 thoughts that came into my head. The first is it made me think of a tv program I watched a few episodes "Better call Saul" where one of the characters thought he was allergic to electricity. It was weird but somewhat comical.
Thinking about when I was growing up I spent a considerable amount of time at the community swimming pool during the summer, barefoot. Was hardly ever sick. Just a thought.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained
Will read.more about this
