CBD oil for pain
After trying opiates, and lyrica, and mostly just suffering I tried sublingual CBD which is from the marijuana plant, but has no THC in it, you don't get high. It was very very effective. Not only did it reduce my pain at least 75%, it has a calming effect on the anxiety produced in those of us with chronic pain by the fact we have it. I do recommend it.... Be sure it is from a reliable source. You don't need to smoke anything or get high.

I have gone off opiates in the past by simply stopping taking them. I never got high on them which I believe prevents the addiction Factor. I know you can taper your dose over days or weeks depending on how large a dose you taking, for how long. If I had to do it again I would just stop taking them but I would make sure I still had some on hand. If I went into withdrawal, which would probably be a lot like the flu, I would take one half of what one dose had been when I was on them. That would probably stop the withdrawal symptoms for a time. When they returned I would do the same thing. After doing that two or three times I would decrease that dose by half again. If it doesn't work you can always increase the dose back to the previous dose for a few more days. You can also ask your pain management person what they recommend. I believe some people have a much larger problem with this than other people. I read about one person who was forced to taper off over 6 weeks and had a very hard time of it and that that is no longer permitted by medical authorities. I have a friend who used opiates who also stopped cold with no withdrawal but he was very careful to never have taken enough to completely extinct is pain. The idea being, that if you take enough to completely remove all uour pain and there's any extra drugs in your system they will have the effect of releasing endorphins in your brain and giving you the sense of euphoria which I believe is what causes addiction. If I really wanted good advice I would talk to someone in the treatment business. I know a number of pain specialists who know an awful lot about how to take these drugs but their knowledge about the mechanisms of addiction and the methods of decreasing and ending your use, don't seem to be up to the same level. You don't have to go through a violent withdrawal. You can safely taper your meds down to zero without getting sick. Good good. Love and Blessings.
I almost hate to say this but my neurologist who deals with the intrathecal pain pumps does not believe that CBD oil has any value at all. However oh, he doesn't live with pain and it's never had anything to do with any form of cannabis product.
Just a heads up, as I tried CBD oil a few years ago for my chronic pain, and unfortunately, it didn't help at all. But everyone is different and good luck!
My experience: Was referred to a compounding pharmacy by my Dr. I started with a small amount subliminally.
It worked like a charm. Stopped my pain in my knees and lower back. So we increased the dose. About 6 mos in I had an unexplained vomiting event. Brought on by a swallow of cold water. Lasted about 4 hours. 3 weeks later it happened again. Between meals afternoon. Nothing to come up but kept dry heaves for 4 or 5 hours. The next one about a week later started at 7am after my dose of CBD Oil, went to ER , continued until 2p. After all day and a battery of testing they could find no reason for the "nausea". Gave me some pills and released me. I stopped the CBD oil and have not had a re occurrence. I still use CBD Cream on my joints, It's very effective. Has anyone else had stomach issues with the oil?
This is very interesting: the different experiences we have with CBD and opiates. I haven't tried any and I hope I never have to but if I do, at least I will know what to watch out for -- I'm learning from you all (thank you!).
When I was very young, I did some partying and drinking, alcohol made me sleepy not happy, cocaine made me awake but not any kind of 'high'; one puff of pot made me so ill I thought I might die, hash did the same, I was given morphine in a hospital; it gave me a headache and made me sleepy but it did dull the pain enough for me to sleep which I couldn't do before I went into the hospital but I didn't want any more of it as soon as I was able to function with just tylenol. I don't think I have ever felt 'euphoria'.
I have an appointment with my pain specialist in 2 1/2 weeks, I'll ask him if he thinks that taking just enough opiates to control the pain without getting 'high' could prevent addiction.
I have read that opiates and pain killers lose their effectiveness and that's why people need more and more and become addicts. I don't know if that is correct.
Starting with a very small dose makes sense to me as I weigh about as much as a twelve year old. Peggy
@grandmajan I do not get nausea or dry heaves from CBD oil, but it makes me very out of it and sometimes, very itchy. I need to take Benedryl to get rid of the itch. I take CBD oil with just a hint of THC, but I swear, I feel rather high from it. Don't like the stuff much at all, but I have Neuropathy, and it does distance pain. Lori Renee
I take medical marijuana. In Fl. you have to go to a certified doctor and have them evaluate you to see if you are a candidate. I have severe osteo arthritis in all my joints and spinal column plus fibromylagia, a brain tumor, Sjogren's, asthma and other diseases- I'm a mess. When I got approved, I went to a recommended dispensary. I use Trulieve. I met with a consultant who reviewed the doctors script and said to "go slow and go low". I only take a combination of CBD 20 to 1 %of THC under my tongue. When the pain gets really bad, I take a full cc under my tongue and in about 15 minutes, the pain has almost gone away. I had Gamma brain surgery a year ago and the neurosurgeon told me to bring it with me. When they took the helmet off after the surgery, I got very nauseaus and had a bad headache. The nurse had me take 2 cc's of my CBD. It took about 20 minutes but it worked. If I didn't have it , I wouldn't be able to function. The nurse told me "you can't od on CBD". Normally, I take .7cc's 3 times a day. I do not get high. I do have some "good" days- not many and on those days, I don't take any CBD and I have never felt a withdrawal. I hope this helps. Joan
Dear Joan
I read your post and it made me cry. We understand your hardship. My husband had stage five pancreatic cancer which metasized to five organs. His Drs in Seattle gave him six months to live. We changed to Mayo and twelve rounds of chemo and five rounds of radiation later he is in remission five years this month. The only medication through all this was RSO concentrated Cannibis. Through the whole ordeal during the first year the pain was so excruciating that even the highest dose of opiates would not relieve even slightly. We had to purchase a new car because the vibrations of the car to Dr appointments would be intolerable. RSO Increased doses given incrementally gave him complete relief. All through the chemo and radiation (which was given in duration over a year) he was not on any other medication because of the RSO. We don’t try to analyze the properties of the RSO because it did provide so much other than just pain relief. To this day he has not had surgery. His CA19 remains at a constant 7. And after his first year of therapy he is no longer on any marijuana of any kind. Cannibus really saved his life.
Joan keep trucking. We’re rooting for you!
@lorirenee Thank you for responding. I continue to use the CBD topical creme. It works like magic on my arthritic knees, back and shoulders. Allows me to remain active most days.
@grandmajan Would you mind sharing the brand of CBD topical cream you find helpful? There are so many, just wondering the name of it. I also have arthritic issues and could use a helpful topical! Thanks!
