CBD oil for pain

Posted by timfitz @timfitz, Jul 19, 2016

After trying opiates, and lyrica, and mostly just suffering I tried sublingual CBD which is from the marijuana plant, but has no THC in it, you don't get high. It was very very effective. Not only did it reduce my pain at least 75%, it has a calming effect on the anxiety produced in those of us with chronic pain by the fact we have it. I do recommend it.... Be sure it is from a reliable source. You don't need to smoke anything or get high.

Hi. I'm a Volunteer Mentor and not a medical professional so I can let you know my experience and knowledge, with the recognition that each of us is different and may have completely different reactions to medicines and "herbs". I have used both marijuana with THC, and CBD with no THC, as well as CBD with a small amount of THC in it. First, I don't think anyone should be "afraid" of marijuana or especially CBD with no THC in it. The plain CBD I have tried seems to be very benign, in that I have had no side effects from it.

When I have taken the CBD oil, I used the recommended dose of 3 pumps under my tongue. This particular one is from mjstherapeutics.org, and states it is "for medical use only by qualified patients & caregivers within the state of California." The bottle says, Cannabidiol, CBD Daily 120mg with a-Bisabolol. The says, 3 pumps = 2 mg CBD. I Have only used 3 pumps as I wasn't sure how I would react. It took about 1 hour before I noticed a slight reduction in my anxiety, but it was barely noticeable. I now know, after doing some research, that I should take probably 7 or 8 pumps and see what happens. I will try that tomorrow after my appt. with the pain doctor. He's probably going to drug test me tomorrow, so I don't want to be loaded up with CBD. I've stopped taking the Tramadol, so I won't need to have another prescription and I'm not worried about it. But, I may need him in the future, so I don't want to burn my bridges. He warned me that if I use marijuana he can never prescribe for me again due to Federal laws. I understand that. Also, I thought this CBD had no THC in it, but I was wrong. The ratio of THC:CBD is 4.59:55.26. Actually, I just used some of it topically right now on my jaws due to TMJ and the pain has lightened a bit. I am not nervous about using it.

I was given at my first visit to the dispensary a tincture (oil) that was labeled 3:1 THC:CBD Releaf Tincture, made by PAPA & Barkley. It says it is "made with whole plant infusion" 30ml - 900 mg cannabinoids. Directions: Start with a .25 ml dose under the tongue (dropper is marked for .25, .50, .75, and 1.0 ml.) for 15 seconds to determine individual potency. Repeat as needed. 1 dose has 5.6 mg/1.9 mg THC/CBD. Onset usually begins within 15 minutes to 2 hours. I have not used this product yet, as I didn't want to have that much THC at the time. However, I will also try this formulation on Friday and let you know how it was. Again, I'm not afraid of my reactions, I just don't want to get high on it. I'm looking for pain relief only. This one doesn't say it's for topical use, but I will try that as well.

Last, I have eaten, smoked and vaped marijuana. I first smoked marijuana when I was in college in my early 20s (I'm 69 yrs old now) and l didn't really like getting high then, so only tried it a few times. I tried it last year here in California, and after 1 hit, I was stoned. I was surprised at how potent the new strains of marijuana are! My husband gave me some chocalate that was a marijuana edible and after eating one small (1.5 inch square) I got so high about 2 hours later that I felt unsafe. Apparently, edibles are far more potent because you injest the marijuana. I was staying at an Air B&B at the time and the owners were downstairs. I kind of panicked because I didn't want them to try to talk with me and realize I was stoned. I'm too responsible for that, and I was again, trying to relieve my deep back pain before my surgery. Otherwise, I would have just relaxed and gone with the flow. I haven't had any edibles since then. I really don't like getting high or stoned. Im looking for pain relief. My pain was always relieved when I was stoned. I could walk upstairs even without my pain, so that part was great. However, I was worried about my balance on the steps, because I was too stoned. I don't want that!

The thing I preferred over all the above is the CBD Living Water. It tastes just like bottled water, and I have a mild but rather immediate reduction of anxiety and some pain with it. I suppose I can try drinking 2 doses worth, which would be 1 bottle of water 16.9 oz. and the cost is $5.00 per bottle. Reading the bottle details it says it contains Cannabidiol that "allows nano sized particles to immediately penetrate your cells, past the blood brain barrier giving the body immediate, 100% bio availability, an AMPLIFIED EFFECT. It also contains D-Ribose: Powerful nutrient for heart health and enhancing cellular energy. . . . CoQ10: Functions as a strong antioxidant . . . . Methylcobalamin B12: Superior form of vitamin B12 . . . . Potassium and magnesium. I actually didn't realize it contains the additional vitamins and minerals. This water has helped me in my final withdrawal from Tramadol. My anxiety and muscle tremors stopped when I drank it. I don't get high, and I do feel better.

If you are taking other medications, you should check with your pharmacist (preferred) or doctor to assure no bad interactions with any of the formulations I have talked about here. Otherwise, think of these as similar to deciding whether to take aspirin, ibuprofen, or acetaminophen. One may work for you when another won't. If you live in a state where marijuana is legal, I recommend visiting the dispensary near you and talk with a clerk there about what to try first and what doseage is recommended. They are quite helpful and want to do the best to get you what you need. If you are in a state where marijuana isn't legal, fight to get it legalized. I will not be addicted to marijuana as it just doesn't work that way in our bodies. It has helped my pain levels, but please remember, there are no miracle medicinals out there.

I hope this post is helpful for anyone who has questions about the use of CBD and Marijuana for pain relief. I haven't used it for insomnia, but because it reduces anxiety I think that will help with insomnia as well. These are my experiences only, so they may not be the same for you. You must be open and willing to experiment with CBD and Marijuana to find what will work for you. Good luck.

Thanks for your detailed explanation. I am patient at Mayo Clinic Rochester. I travel from Ecuador to Rochester for my appointments. I have lived 20 years with pmdd premenstrual disphoric disorder and 3 year ago I was diagnosed with an autoinmune condition called Adult Still Disease. While beign on this 2 diagnostics I decided (at 45 years old) to have my complete hysterectomy and ophorectomy for pmdd. After his surgery my mental and physical pmdd symptoms dissapear completely. Ive stayed on zoloft because it has been half my life in my system. 1 year post op I started to work out and experience mood and sleep disturbance. This actually do well on estradiol hrt patches, that I change each week. they help to level the mood and also the sleep. Now, because I am better with the inflamation from Still disease, doctors wean me of the metrotexate and the prednisone, so I can stay only with plaquenil. While weaning of the prednisone (very gradually) I noticed that at 3.5 mg if I go down, I started to have sleep issues. The best way for handling any stress, for a person that had pmdd or any depression or anxiety disorder, is having a good and quality sleep each night. Ive battle my whole life with hormonal fluctuations, so if I introduce melatonin, I respond very sensitive. The women I´ve met, most do fine on cbd oil from hemp (0.3% THC) over the counter, for sleep and mood. If I do fine on it, I can taper of the seroquel for sleep, and I will be more than pleased with that, and staying just with zoloft, then it works perfect. I have made my own research and order a reputable brand known as Lazarus, and will receive it next month (at Ecuador). In my country, are some domestic marihuana oil. that people use for severe cancer, but no different options to choose. If everything do fine, and can manage my sleep with the cbd oil, I will stay only with zoloft for mood, and plaquenil for autoinmune inflamation. I´ve already sent a message to my rheumatology at Mayo Clinic in order to ask for any possible interaction, but I think maybe they are reluctant to answer then its completely off the label, experimental and without scientific research. I´ll plan to go to a MD here in Ecuador that is expert in biological alternative medicine, because I need a doctor with both knowledges the conventional and complementary medicine. maybe, he will be more open to the cbd oil. Here at Ecuador people is very traditional, families are extremely conventional, and everybody is afraid of the "drug addiction" label that marihuana is known. Lets wait and see how it goes.

Good Morning, I use the 50/50 in a topical and a 3 to 1mix in a tincture. I use the topical whenever my hands have neuropathy needle pain. And then always at bedtime and whenever needed during the day for Myofascial pain in my leg. I use the tincture with morning coffee and afternoon tea. It really works. You need to start slowly with just half a dropper. I try to have a regimen that works well and is easy to administer and hard to forget because of my brain fog.
