Menopause and muscle knots

Posted by snowmass @snowmass, Jun 3 3:33pm

Hello, Are there anyone who is going thru menopause and experiencing really bad muscle knot issues on the neck/shoulder areas?

I am having so much pain and just had Botox injections done on the shoulders, neck and head…
I am already on HRT but wondering if anyone has had more positive results including testosterone replacement? ( i am only on estrogen and progesterone)

Thank you for sharing in advance!

I had a couple and they were stubborn. It was before menopause, though. I tried many treatments to no avail. Was getting ready to get botox injection when it released. I haven’t had much trouble with them lately. If I did, I’d try PT with myofascial release. Have you tried that? Also, I suspect anxiety played a role.

Oh, @snowmass, your discussion on muscle knots has my shoulders up to my ears! I suffered for years with that situation. Wasn’t sure if it was menopause that brought it on though for me. It was years of bad posture working in a dental office, hours of sewing and painting…but menopause didn’t help, that’s for sure.
My two solutions. I get regular massages from my certified massage therapist. As @celia16 referenced in their reply to you, someone certified in myofascial release can really have a positive impact on relieving those knots long term.
The first session can leave you feeling a little sore and sometimes tired for a day. Drink plenty of water and within a day or so, you’ll start feeling the amazing results. Opt for a 2nd treatment within 2 weeks and then usually monthly after that. I now have free range of motion and very few neck/headaches anymore.
From time to time I also see a certified acupuncturist. I get a good 6 weeks relief in the back of my head, shoulders and neck with I have treatments.

Have you tried either of these?

Thanks I didn't know where to go or find someone to guide me to what to do, I thought I was locked in vitamin or my ages. 50th.

Please get tested for B12 too. I had no idea how that kind of deficiency can affect your body. It’s very serious. My 2nd neurologist recently explained it to me.

Is Testosterone tested and prescribed as part of HRT?
