Anyone tried Gabapentin for Fibromyalgia?

Posted by ripley @ripley, Oct 18, 2023

I've had fibromyalgia for almost two years. Each flare seems to get progressively worse. I'm trying to figure out what medication to try with the least amount of side effects and withdrawal issues. Has anyone tried Gabapentin? If so, what was your experience?

I tired Gabapentine for fibromylgia and had a very bad reaction, 11 years ago with swelling, itching and skin rashes. My GP recommended Pregablin and my body is fine with it, it reduces the intensity of the pins and needles and slightly reduces my neurophatic pain from my hernited discs.

I take 300 mg of gabapentin 3 times a day. The only side effect I got was very bad dry mouth. But I already had dry mouth. I've only been on it for about 2 months and I don't really feel like it's helping my pain. But my Dr says I need to be on it longer to tell if it is going to work. I've had fibro for 24 years so I think it's going to take something stronger. Good luck

Yes, my neurologist prescribed it for nerve pain (I have a whole host of things that cause nerve pain, fibro chief among them) and I find it quite helpful for sleep and pain relief.

My Dr prescribed it for my arthritis in my knees. It does nothing for that. Taking it every night does not ward off flare ups but once I have a flare it calms it in three days. First day half the pain second day half again and third day it’s usually gone.

I was diagnosed in 1990. Gabapentin was one of the first drugs I was put on. I love it. It's one of the main ones that actually helps me. It cuts down on a lot of the pain. It's definitely not a cure all but then nothing is but I think it helps a lot. I am still on it

My Dr, put me on Gabapentin for fibro pain. The only problem I had with it was leg swelling. Waiting for a revisit to discuss this, in the meantime I stopped taking it

What dose are you on? I read that your body gets used to the drug so you have to continually increase the dose. Have you experienced this? Thanks.

So you only take it as needed? What dose do you take? Once you are pain free after 3 days of taking it, do you stop taking it then? Thanks.
