Echolight sonogram scan for bones
Has anyone heard of, or had an Echolight sonogram scan instead of a radiation DEXA scan? New FDA approved that has been used in Europe for awhile. https://www.echolightmedical.com/en/company/

Im having a dexa scan tomorrow that also includes the TBS ( trabecular bone score) and I live in Illinois. I specifically looked for a place that offered this . My first dexa didn’t have it.
I myself had a dexa done last year which gave me a t-score of -3.4 for spine and -1.6 for hip. I just had the echolight done at my osteostrong gym (osteogenic loading, look it up), and my t-score was -2.0 for spine and -1.8 for hip. I had been suspicious of my dexa when I got those scores, so I’m glad I did this new ultrasound procedure. I will get a 2 yr dexa next May, so it will be interesting to see what it says. I may get another echolight in the meantime, not sure. It was $157.
Also, this is an interesting article "Will the New Ultrasound Device Replace DEXA Bone Density Testing?" although I see it was written in 2022. There may be more update info now.
Where did you find hospitals, clinics that offer trabecular bone score?
I copied this link from an earlier post (don't remember by whom).
This website can help you find an imaging center in your state that has DEXA with TBS capabilities. https://www.medimapsgroup.com/

I'm in New Jersey. Where did you go to get it done? And is it covered by insurance?
Attached is a list of practices in the USA that have the Echolight REMS machine. Most are orthopedic practices. I don't know of any hospitals that have REMS. They all offer only DXA, which involves ionizing radiation. The great advantage of REMS is that it is sonography, not radiation, so you can have multiple scans per year to follow your progress.

It's from the list I posted elsewhere in this conversation and will also attach it here.
REMS now has a CPT code for reimbursement from Medicare as of January 2024. Here is a site where you can get further information on insurance reimbursement:

Does anyone know where you can get this test in Southern California?
I had an Echolight REMS scan yesterday. In Owings Mills, MD, at OsteoCoach, for those of you in the DC metro area. While my DEXA scores put me firmly in Osteoporosis and have my doctor wanting to start meds (spine: -3.2, total hip: -2.7, femoral neck: -3.1), my REMS scores are far better and indicate that I’m firmly in the range for Osteopenia (spine: -1.8, total hip: -1.8, femoral neck: -2.2). Also the bone mineral density numbers were better in the REMS and the fracture risk assessment score was pretty low. So now I will bring this information back to my doctor and rethink going on meds. Am trying to build bone via a lot of weightlifting, tap dancing, and yoga along with calcium, vitamin D, and may start vitamin K.
