Does anyone find that a type of shoe helps your foot neuropathy?

Posted by lorirenee1 @lorirenee1, Mar 25, 2019

I am on a constant quest for shoes that don't kill my feet due to the neuropathy. I find that Spencos and Wolky shoes seem the best. Are there any other suggestions? Shoes can be just crippling for me. Horrid.

Hi Art @artatthegreatpnw, Welcome to Connect. Thanks for sharing what helps you. While I don't have diabetes, it runs in my family and I've always been in the pre-diabetes category. I learned the hard way how important it is to take care of your feet. I shared what happened to me in another discussion on tips for taking care of the feet here - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/diabetic-neuropathy-its-important-to-take-care-of-your-feet/.

Have you had your doctor look at the spot on your heel that is painful and delicate?

Hello, I am constantly buying shoes online and 50% of time returning them. So far the Hokas, Brooks and just received Orthofeet Malibu, so far so good. I have a very high arch and need suppot the Orthofeet shoes come with an insert to make the arch higher. Really like them, only 2nd day....hopefully they work, they have cute styles unlike Hoka and Brooks, only sneakers. Best wishes to all who suffer from this neuropothy...

Hello, had to return Orthofeet sandals. Made my balance worse than ever. Too much cushioning, never thought that would be a problem but it was. Back to Brooks sneakers, Ryke sandals and Abeo sandals and Hoka sneakers. Still searching for the prime, most comfortable sandal.

You might want to try FitVille recovery sandals. Fitville has an entire line of shoes that are designed for people with problem feet the recovery sandals that I wear are like walking on a cloud

Another sandal to consider is by Teva. I like the Tirra for women because its straps are all adjustable. Once adjusted you don't have to adjust them again excepting for the ankle strap which is used to put on/take off the sandal. They have a fairly firm sole, similar to most "athletic" sandals; they are not a dress shoe. I wear them for everyday during the warm months. (There was frost on the sidewalk this morning at 7:45 AM. I'm on the high plateau of central Oregon, also known as the High Desert, at around 4,000 ft elevation.)

If you have numbness of toes due to PN, New Balance shoes are recommended for their wide toe box. I've been wearing them since my PN diagnosis in 2008, and they are the best.

My doctor recommended Hoka one one's. They are an investment but they are the best and most comfortable shoes I've ever worn. There's plenty of room for the toes and protection too. It takes a while to get used to the "clown shoe" look. When I first got them anyway. Now I get why the other sneakers were so very uncomfortable. These shoes are made for real feet. Older feet that have worn high heels most of their life. They last forever too. Recommended by my foot surgeon but I also have neuropathy and I wear nothing else.

Hoka has many different types of shoes
Which one you found was good.
This will help me to choose the right shoe

Check the "Cloud" shoe made in Switzerland. The nurses I know are switching from Hoka to Cloud especially if they are a little overweight
