@pmclause Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect, first of all. This situation with your husband and his bottom lip must really be frustrating for him, not to mention painful. And I know you want to help him as much as possible!

Here is the link to get in contact with Mayo CLinic for an appointment: http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63

I hope getting in to see the right doctor will give you both some great answers to this.

It does look painful. I’m type I, so I read a lot about diabetes. Whatever, the cause, it’s difficult for healing if the blood glucose is high. I might see an endocrinologist in order to ensure the blood sugar is well managed. And, what does the dermatologist say about lack of healing?

If the blood sugar levels are high, healing can be inhibited. Was he prescribed blood sugar lowering medication or insulin to lower his blood sugar? Has he been diagnosed with diabetes?

I see. I might try to reach the endocrinologist or doctor who’s treating his diabetes and explain what’s going on. He could need an adjustment to address high blood sugar or at least test to see if that is preventing his lip from healing. And, in the meantime be watchful of signs of ketoacidosis.
