Comments about CBD and/or THC for neuropathy pain and paresthesia?

Posted by amkie @amkie, May 25 10:09am

Anyone tried CBD topically or THC gummies or anything on that order for the burning radiating pain of neuropathy? Also has anyone had a neurologist suggest this as a potential therapy? I will ask my own neurologist but wanted some broader input in the meantime. Success anyone? My family thinks this should be considered. I have tried various topical and oral prescribed medications with little success so far. Thanks for any comments.

I have severe axonal sensorimotor polyneuropathy.
SFN, CAN- cardiac autonomic neuropathy ( you are given approx. 8 years left to live because they can’t control your heart rate beats too slow or fast. I have problems with blood pressure it was high for two weeks cardiologist put me on blood pressure meds then my pressure dropped I passed out then it went back to normal). I have tremors in my legs and hands from the motor neuropathy my husband has to cut my food and I can’t drink out a bottle of water or glass without it ending up on the front of me. I am 62 years old I don’t want to be elderly and overdosing on pain meds. Marijuana has been shown to cause nerve regeneration.
That’s why I suggested Dr Anne Oaklander’s lecture on YouTube. There has been a lot of research by Israel and other countries on it.

Artemis I have a pacemaker so my heart rate never drops below 60 beats a minute. Before I got it my working heart beat was only 47 beats a minute and 27 when I slept. I just had my 3rd battery put in and I’ve had this for about 20 years. Why can’t you see a cardiologist and ask him about a pacemaker.

After an EMG I was told I have Axonal sensory Polyneuropathy. Is that what you have (it sounds almost the same) ? If it is, I have learned more from you than 2 neurologists, who told me nothing. I have no idea what to expect, how to deal with it, nothing other than in 2/3 months with PT I should be able to walk with a walker. Well, 3months later and I am bedridden with numbers legs, feet and hands which gets worse by day. This really sucks.

I asked them about a pacemaker and ICD (pacemaker/defibrillator).
I don’t have the nerves to connect an ICD.
Do you have CAN cardiac autonomic neuropathy?

Yes but mine is sensorimotor
Yes, it does. If you cook Iam constantly cutting my hands and I look down and there is blood everywhere then I have to get stitches. They aka doctors never tell you the truth of what to expect until something new happens. The pain in your legs gets frustrating.
They did not tell me the truth about my tremors that’s the motor neuropathy. They called it essential tremors. I had to go to Boston to get the correct diagnosis. I am so frustrated the only hope is IVIG therapy it stops it but you have to take it the rest of your life. It also reverses some of it. Dr Oaklander has been researching this since before 2015.
Marijuana has properties that can cause nerve regeneration. I went through RN school constantly reading medical journals for continuing education credits.
Mine started in 2002 bur was ignored. I had bacterial spinal meningitis and I was 34. My whole world changed due to nerve damage.

There is a lot to comment on here ~First, anyone with real pain should try LDN - Low Dose Naltrexone. It has been discussed here a lot & many people truly benefit.

Next, Some THC Gummies with or without CBD make my feet more numb & stiffer than ever.
My PT says that THC is a stimulant & she’s not surprised that my symptoms would get worse. But the thing is it doesn’t happen with all gummies. So my question is ~ does anyone else have this reaction when using THC gummies and can you determine which strain may be causing it?
Thanks,
Bruce

I have been prescribed CBD for pain and after a few doses it has made me very dizzy.

I've had two neurologists tell me to give CBD and THC "a try" for my post-stroke burning nerve pain in my legs and feet. They've said that because it hasn't had federal approval (might now be changing), there are sparse clinical studies on its effectiveness because funding is not available. I take CBD gummies (about 60 mg a day in two doses) and keep trying Sativa strain of marijuana at microdosing level of 2.5 mg. It never makes me high, but sometimes causes my wobbling balance to worsen, and sometimes seems to reduce the burning pain. My family keeps telling me to experiment more with different brands and strains. I don't know...

THC, either smoke or gummy has worked for me but it is not a cure just temporary relief.

I live in Texas medical marijuana is not an option for me.
Yes, my neurologist said he would recommend it for me.
Listen to Dr Anne Oaklander a research neurologist. She brings it up in one of her studies. Have I tried it yes when I visited Colorado and California. I have asthma and can’t smoke. I did an edible.. I slept all the way through the night. I took an indica 10 mgs. Currently, we are stationed in Germany and when we come back looking at Colorado Springs. I am allergic to over50 different medications so it’s hard on me. The only opioid I can take is OxyContin and oxycodone by KVK tech. Malimkoft I am allergic too.

Hi Artemis,
I live in Colorado< and I am very grateful that I have easy access to all types of products that contain THC and CD. I find it very helpful for my spinal stenosis pain and for my anxiety.
I am sorry that you are allergic to so many meds. That must be hard.
