Hello @rmhc123. This is a very complex question. So much so, that even medical professionals warrant that more research needs to be done, https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC10661823/.

In your case, @manuelpo gives simple, but prudent, advice. You'll likely need to talk with your provider. Because there is ongoing research, it may come down to what your cardiologist thinks is safe based on your situation. If you don't mind sharing, are you currently on anti-depressants? Do those have any contraindications with your HOCM?

Hi @rmhc123

I apologize for the late response that I did not see before till today to respond.
I am not on on anti-depressants and I have some contraindication with my HOCM. I searched contraindications for HOCM and I found "nitrates" (which my Cardiologist already told me to avoid them no matter what), ACE inhibitors also can increase outflow tract obstruction. Also Nifedipine-type calcium antagonists: Can increase outflow tract obstruction. All this information I found online:
Drugs to avoid in obstructive HCM.
Nitrates.
ACE, ARB: . . . . ...
Dihydropyridine CaCB: Nifedipine, Amlodipine; . . . ...
Alpha blockers: Terazosin (Hytrin), Tamsulosin (Flomax), Doxazosin (Cardura), . . . ...
PDE5 inhibitors: Sildenafil (Viagra), Vardenafil (Levitra), . . . . ...
Dobutamine, Dopamine, Digoxin.

However, only an expert Cardiologist specialized in HOCM has the best advise that I would suggest to ask that contraindication question. I hope you feel better.
