Good or best osteoporosis exercise book

Posted by alexxa @alexxa, Nov 8, 2023

I can't find a post where I think windy shores recommended one in particular....I'm going to order one from Amazon.
Best suggestions please?
Thx!! I'm starting physical therapy too but it is for general getting in shape and strength...I told them my diagnosis but I get the impression that people in the op world like to recommend certain exercises to do and not to do. I did order the 2009 book by McCormick but due to rearranging my place I can't find it.

My husband was recently diagnosed with osteoporosis.

I’ve attached his bone scan results to show his t-scores. He’s been on high-dose prednisone for a year for PMR and GCA (giant cell arteritis). Which is what we believe caused this.

His last x-rays showed: Subacute to chronic mild T11 compression fracture is evident, new compared to May 23, 2023 thoracic spine radiograph.

We would like to find safe exercises for him to do. I’ve read sit-ups are not a good idea.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

@isabelle7 - you are absolutely correct -no sit ups for sure!!! In fact he should train himself to avoid any trunk flexion postures. Therefore , for example, squatting rather than bending foward , when doing things , keeping his back in extension, straight alignment . One should be hinging at the hip to do tasks like that. And this idea needs to be used throughout all functional activities. The reason for this is that the pressure one puts on the anterior aspect of the vertebrae when you use flexion is what makes one vulnerable to compressing it , breaking it down causing a compression fracture. Good luck to you !!! Hope that helps your understanding.
