Autonomic Clinics: What locations provide autonomic care?
Hi Everyone,
I was accepted to Rochester's Neuro dept back in early April. My neurologist referred me for suspicion of functional neurological disorder and autonomic dysfunction. Does anyone know which Mayo Clinic have an autonomic clinic?
I am looking around each location to see if anyone can get me in sooner.
Thank you

I know the Phoenix, AZ clinic has one but not sure who runs it now that Dr. Brent Goodman left.
I have the same question. I have been diagnosed with autonomic dysfunction, specifically neurally mediated syncope (aka vasovagal syncope). We are trying to control it with meds right now but if that doesn't help I was told I would need to visit an autonomic dysfunction clinic. He mentioned Duke but they are not taking new patients. Next would be Vanderbuilt U. Med. Center. I do not even know if Mayo has one. I will follow this thread and hope we can get more info on it. Thanks for posting.
Mayo in Phoenix, AZ had one as I mentioned above. It looks like this doctor may have taken over for Dr. Goodman: https://www.mayoclinic.org/biographies/arca-karissa-n-m-d/bio-20515832

Hi cherawgirl,
I was calling around Mayo Clinic yesterday to try and see about autonomic care at each location, Rochester, Jacksonville, and Phoenix. Rochester definitely has an autonomic clinic as that is the location my neurologist recommended me to for autonomic dysfunction.
I spoke with the Neuro dept at Phoenix to see what they have available. They said they have autonomic testing such as tilt table tests, QSART, and some other tests. They also have autonomic neurologists available.
I am unsure about the Jacksonville location. I spoke with them to see if I could get an appointment in the Neuro dept with a focus on autonomic dysfunction however, I was told they can only schedule appointments for individuals with a definitive diagnosis. I need to go to Mayo clinic for diagnostic testing that will hopefully result in a diagnosis and treatment. It sounds like you do have a definite diagnosis of vasovagal syncope and that Jacksonville might be able to provide more insight for your situation.
While I am unsure if Jacksonville offers autonomic testing, I recommend you contact each location to discuss your case and needs. I wish you the best of luck. If I learn anything else, I'll share it here.
Hi aaron_az,
Thank you for sharing these resources! I believe I recognize you from another post I made in the "Visiting Mayo Clinic" forum. Do you have any experience with autonomic testing?
Yes. Dr. Goodman was my neurologist in Phoenix and had me do the full battery of testing. Luckily all normal in my testing.
Yes, I do have a definitive diagnosis to a certain point. I have had many test, including tilt table, heart monitors, etc.
The next challenge is a deep dive into the root cause which could be almost impossible to find. It could be a million different things.
The catch is that the syncope is not predictable so appointments for diagnostics while symptomatic is would just be a lucky happenstance.
Thanks for your research and reply. Good luck to you.
