I took B complex throughout my treatment.
At the 5 year point I did the Breast Cancer Index test, which is now in the NCCN guidelines, which tells your risk and also whether extending an AI past 5 years is of benefit. I came out high risk, but no benefit, so I stopped.
I had read that 7 years was as good as 10 and had planned on doing 7 but after that test, I stopped. My bones needed attention anyway!
I was only able to be on them 18 months. I now am having a recurrence but due to osteoporosis will not be able to take them again.
I'm been on Letrozole and other AI's for over four years. I've been on B vitamins at my oncologist's recommendation for almost 4 years. I've never considered Vitamin E. I also take a multivitamin, calcium supplement and collagen. I take citrus bergamot for high cholesterol.
I have been on letrozole for 2 years. I was on B vitamins but not E. I did though, end up with MDS and had a Bone marrow transplant on April 9th. Besides the meds for the transplant, Femara (letrozole) is the only other pill i got to add back in for now. (I always check with the medical team before I add any pill) My NP had mentioned that Biotine, the one in drinks and foods and other items counteracts the Letrozole. For me it falls under the c heck out the ingredients in all my foods.
Citrus bergamot for high cholesterol..? Has it been working?
I’ve had high cholesterol and lumbar spine osteoporosis for many years prior to my BC diagnosis. Been taking Letrozole for about 6 months now— aside from side effects I’m finding very difficult (anxiety, insomnia, easy bruising, brain fog), I’m apprehensive about getting my cholesterol measured. Also considering trying Lexapro again to help with anxiety and insomnia. How many drugs do we need to take to counteract the nasty side effects of an aromatase inhibitor?! 😞
Thank you all for sharing!
It's probably not as effective as a statin, but I avoid statins because I have chemo induced neuropathy in my hands and feet. Studies suggest that statins worsen the neuropathy. A known side effect of Letrozole is possible increased cholesterol levels. Citrus bergamot seems to help. At my last checkup my bad cholsterol was down some, but good cholsterol was up significantly. As I'm not diabetic and have good blood pressure, my doctor is not concerned. If you don't have neuropathy, red yeast rice is an otc supplement that has the same active ingredient as most statins.
What is citrus bergamot and how do you use it for neuropathy
I don't use it "for" neuropathy. I use it to lower cholesterol. Statins are normally prescribed to lower high cholesterol, but they can aggravate or worsen neuropathy symptoms. I use it to lower cholesterol without aggravating my neuropathy.
