Shortness of breath?

I never had any shortness of breath in 5 years on letrozole.

Like windyshores, I'm on letrozole with no side effects. Breathlessness is scary. If it occurs by all means talk to your doctor immediately and you can always stop the drug and see if the problem vanishes (in which case you'll know it was a side effect.) Is shortness of breath a problem you already experience? Are you concerned in terms of exercise or something else?

Thank you for your reply. I do not currently have shortness of breath. Somewhere else a woman said her heart palpitations were very bad on Anastrozole but maybe she already had problems.

As each person is different, there is quite a range of reactions to aromatase inhibitors. My personal process was to start, while telling myself that if it really impacted my life negatively I'd try to switch the meds (there are options) or stop. Of course I planned to talk first to my oncologist. Well, it has been fine (which doesn't discount other peoples' experience, but I'm grateful). Basically it is good to have info, but I try not to scare myself with possible side effects when I start a medication but wait to see if I get any! Wishing you the best moving forward.

I tried it, switched to Letrozole, then went to Exemestane.
Yes, they can all cause shortness breath. Look at the half life. I think its 50 hours elimination. As you dr if you can go every other day.
This will prevent stacking.
For many women, the side effects can be crippling, literally. Another reason to ask if you can take it every other day.

I am going to go ahead and try it as many don’t have that symptom. My thyroid med actually says may cause shortness of breath but it has never bothered me. Like someone said, she tries not to think of the side effects and I will do the same. Best of luck to you.

Same here after more than two years on anastrozole. An experienced doctor once told me never to read up on all the possible side effects of a prescribed drug - which is so easy to do these days. The drug companies are required by law to list every side effect ever recorded. You are likely to attribute anything and everything to the drug. I followed this advice when a cardiologist prescribed a drug for mild blood pressure. As it turned out, I did get an annoying dry cough. After chest Xrays etc, my general practioner decided the new blood pressure pill was indeed the culprit and prescribed another drug. The cough has almost gone away. So please don't attribute everything to anastrozole - and seek medical advice.
