Forteo vs. Tymlos: Which did you choose?

Hi ,@windyshores. I been having a therapy for two weeks without much improvement. The disc in my spine pressing nerve and the pain is very very bad. The worst part is that it’s radiating to my knees ( they feel locked). I am so hesitant to start Tymlos. Even I know I have to! Decided call pain doctor and get a cortisone shot . My endocrinologist doesn’t like it but I have to be able to function. Would you advise to start Tymlos before the shot or wait and start in a week or two? I value your opinion very much. I am very scared of another fracture ( I have a 4 in my spine already.

My bone density increase was 11% total. 6% the first year and 5% the second My last scan was last year, either late summer or early fall.
I've had no side effects on Alendronate.

I always have problems about my stomach, last year my primary doctor prescribed Boniva to take once a month and I just started only 4 months I have to stop because I got a lot of heartburn then she sent me to see endocrinologist last 2/14/24 she prescribed me Forteo (brand name) or Teriparatide(Generic brand) or another choice Prolia .Until now I have not given her the answer yet about which one I prefer .I call my Medicare part D (Aetna Silver Script) I have to pay almost $700/month for Teriparatide generic brand only.😁

@laoaca I hope you can do a bone builder like terparatide (generic Forteo), Forteo, Tymlos or Evenity. The companies that make Forteo and Tymlos have patient assistance programs with income limits, and Evenity's Amgen may help too.

Prolia is an anti-resorptive and there are risks when you stop it- loss of bone density and increase in fracture risk, sometimes even when you transition to Reclast. Forteo and Tymlos are anabolic bone-builders and build quality bone. Evenity is both anti-resorptive and anabolic. All of these drugs are followed by Reclast, Fosamax or (not recommended by my docs) Prolia to "lock in gains."

Evenity is given in the doctor's office and is 80% covered by Medicare Part B. I pay $427 for it. My Tymlos was free for 18 months via Radius Assist.

Ask your doctor if you need to take a break between Boniva and the next drug and what the best timing might be.

I started nearly 3 years ago and finished at the end of last September. I was on part D and received full coverage for Forteo. Nothing at all out of pocket. In my case, it was the clinic (a large one) I go to that did the paperwork. I think that made the difference. They kept telling me to fill out the forms. I didn't believe I would qualify because of income level. I finally filled them out and was 100% covered.

I'm curious, is there anyone else on here that applied for assistance through their clinic?

I have never heard of a clinic for Forteo. My insurance wants $1,000 a month from me. That's insane! I took Forteo for 1 Year back in 2003 and the doctor didn't know it was for 2 years so now they want to give me the 2nd year but at that price, I can't. Both Tymlos and Tereparatide have manufacturers coupon. Just Google Tymlos manufacturer’s coupon. Same with Tereparatide. I have used both and paid zero dollars. With these programs you need commercial insurance (from work). Unfortunately you can’t use them with Medicare. I don’t know what is available for low cost with Medicare.
