Reclast after Forteo?

I have been injecting daily with Forteo for over a year, no problems, and after the end of next year my Doctor wants me to have one Reclast injection. Almost twenty years ago I took Fosomax for five years and had no issues. Why can not you take Fosomax instead of Reclast, which I am afraid of?

Just that they have been there a long time and there is more of a chance that the tooth could be cracked or become decayed and need to be pulled because another root canal may not be able to save it?

It seems for a long term (20-30 years) management of op, multiple use of anabolics is inevitable. The selection of an antiresorptive in between is part of key for the success.

You’ve gone through so much and have an amazing ability to make most out of a treatment under a difficult situation. Wish continued success in your next step. Keep us posted please.

@mayblin I am hoping that low dose Reclast will be a good middle ground 🙂

@janflute will Tymlos or Forteo work if you have one failing parathyroid? What does your doctor say?

With the only one remaining parathyroid gland that may be failing atm, it’s more challenging to maintain and monitor your state of bone health. Along with your thyroid hormone too. I’m sure your endo is taking great care of you. But at the same time I’m wondering if monitoring your bone markers will add additional value to your overall management, since tools are so limited to start with.

jmanj, your posts have already been so helpful. I'm trying to follow my bone health with bone markers, but can't quite figure it out. Do you know what method your doctor is using or would I be able to get an appointment with your edocrinologist. Thanks.

I also only have one parathyroid gland, for the same reason as you. How do you know your gland is failing and has your Dr suggested a treatment option for this? Thanks.
