I too have found that doctors seem to want to put us on medications without testing us to find the underlying causes of our hypertension. I am on amlodipine and Telmisartan. My blood pressure fluctuates. I have had at least 2 strokes. My niece’s blood pressure was so high that she had to be hospitalized several times. When she moved to Italy, the doctors there found the root cause of her hypertension. It was diabetes insipidus. They were able to treat her successfully with the correct medications including spironolactone. She came back to US to visit last year and on the medications they have her on her blood pressure is well controlled, she looked healthy, had energy, and said it changed her entire life. They tested her genetics and got to the root cause.
