Forteo vs. Tymlos: Which did you choose?

I can't answer about Tymlos, but I was on Forteo for 24 months and finished in September 2023. My density went up 11%, up 6% the first year and 5% the second year. The side effects were minimal and went away after the first couple of weeks.

I am ready to get osteoporosis treatment but I am not sure which one is the right for me between Forteo and Tymlos ?
When I read all the comments in here it seems to me that a Tymlos is better choice for no need to refrigerate.

Did you use Medicare part D for pay for Forteo ?
How much the co-payment please ?

I chose Tymlos because I could tolerate it (I did not tolerate Forteo but many do) and because the dose is adjustable. I kept it in the fridge so it would last longer since I did not do a full dose all the time. I had excellent results.

I haven't started meds yet, but have a prescription of teriparatide waiting at the pharmacy if I move forward with it. It is $1927/month up to the $8000 cap (will be $2000 in 2025). Thank you so much for your answer and your advise, I checked online about the program that helps people for osteoporosis treatment they can’t give to people who already have Medicare part D like I do now ,but I think I am going to look for the new company for Medicare part D that pays for Forteo or Tymlos .

@laoaca70 Even on Medicare, if you make under a certain amount annually, you can get financial assistance. I don't remember the exact amount but it's in the mid to low $40Ks.

Hi ,@windyshores. I been having a therapy for two weeks without much improvement. The disc in my spine pressing nerve and the pain is very very bad. The worst part is that it’s radiating to my knees ( they feel locked). I am so hesitant to start Tymlos. Even I know I have to! Decided call pain doctor and get a cortisone shot . My endocrinologist doesn’t like it but I have to be able to function. Would you advise to start Tymlos before the shot or wait and start in a week or two? I value your opinion very much. I am very scared of another fracture ( I have a 4 in my spine already.
