Lidocaine Infusions for fibromyalgia

Posted by m @mh10, May 1 3:57pm

Has anybody had lidocaine infusions for fibromyalgia and spinal pain? If so, did it work?

I've had fibro for 29 years and have never heard of Lidocaine infusions for it. I've heard of them for the spine.

Let me know if you do this and how well you fare. Praying for you. I understand the pain of fibro and arthritis in the spine. God Bless You!

I'd like to invite @debstinydogs and @elsa to this discussion as they both discussed receiving lidocaine infusions in the past on Connect. Although they had different diagnoses than fibromyalgia, they may be able to share the experiences and results they had with lidocaine infusions in regards to their own diagnoses and pain.

@mh10, what sort of other treatments or therapies have you tried for your fibro and spinal pain?

I have Adhesive Arachnoiditis of the lumbar sacral spine and cauda equina and wonder if anyone else has AA and if so, have you tried lidocaine infusions for it? @covidstinks2023 I don't mean to hijack your post and hope I'm posting my question in the right place. I hope you get some responses and also that lidocaine infusions would help you!

I asked my rheumatologist about lidocaine and she said no. Both my rheumatologist and doctor said no to gabapentin. I have constant pain, to me a flare just means more pain but it is always there.

1kay2, I understand & empathize. I have found as I get older, it has worsened and has had 3 friends to join in: osteoarthritis, Hashimotos & Graves Disease. I personally believe FM is an autoimmune disease.

I cannot take Gabapentin. I felt like a zombie....even on 50 mg! I do use Aspercreme with Lidocaine Spray and it helps. My doctor has tried just about everything with me and the only thing that works is Prednisone. I feel wonderful on it when I have had to be on a taper. He wanted to put me on a low dose for the rest of my life and I wouldn't do it due to the side effects of it long term.

If I could tolerate NSAIDS, I could occasionally take that on my worst of days, but, I don't tolerate them well. I only take Tylenol and Flexeril on my worst days (1/2 of a 5 mg tablet), hot bath soaks in Epsom Salt, Voltaren Gel & Heat Packs.

I wouldn't wish FM on anyone. I am praying for you and God Bless You! Soft Hugs....

Why did your Drs say no to gabapentin? Are you taking any other meds for your fibro? I also have fibro with daily pain and don't know what to do. My Dr recommended a low dose of gabapentin, which I am considering. Thanks.

I have been getting lidocaine infusions for over 5 years. I am able to get one every 4 weeks and I take advantage of that. The result is subtle but I find I am able to do much more beginning the day after the infusion. The effect usually lasts about 2 weeks.

I have terrible reactions, mostly involving my sight with all FM medications. All I can take is 100 mg doxycycline daily. It's a very old treatment for FM, doesn't take it away completely but does help,
