Have an ileostomy: I'd like to learn how to slow down my bowel.
I have ileostomy and play golf, I would like to learn how to slow down my bowel movement for 4 hours while I play, currently I snack on cheerios and take one immodium which seem to help, any other suggestions? Thanks Terry

The only way I found that works is limit my food intake and change my pouch before I leave. Ground beef seems to move the slowest through my digestive tract.
Not saying it is answer but I have found cherios help. When leaving for golf I take a couple of hands full, then keep some on board of my cart and eat a few hand fulls along the way, its full proof but it does help. Terry
High Output Problem with Illeostomy- Mayo wants my output to be 1000 - 1200 per 24 hrs. For several months it averaged 1500. The high output causes low magnesium. I take 50 mg Mag. 4td. Also have to have 4mg Mag. infusion every week if it is below 1.8. It is always below 1.8 averaging around 1.5 every week. I take Metamucil 4td, 1 lomotil and 1 imodium twice a day, Guar Gum (powder) 2td, and I drink a special Mayo mixture that I mix at home according to their instructions. Lately my output has increased and nothing I do has slowed it down. Any suggestions?---Anyone with illeostomy have Magnesium problems? Anyone have high output problem that was solved?
I would hook back up if you were not having pain.
You might try Metamucil powder or Guar Gum powder which might work for you. Lo Motil and Imodium will work also but you need to check with your Dr. about those.
Surgeon at Mayo just yesterday told me there is no assurance that if hooked back up I won't have bowell issues the rest of my life ( I am 80) I cannot think of anything worse than not being in control of my bowels. The bag is a given, I know how to use it and I have zero issues, with that said I favor no hook up.
I understand completely. I made the same decision and I have my quality of life back now with no Colon. I hope for the best for you.
I had a similar problem that included gas. It was a result of the reduction of helpful bacteria in my remaining digestion tract. What the doctor recommended that I take is Acidophilus Probiotic. Since taking this OTC product, the bloating, diarrhea has stopped. Check with your doctor to see if the doc agrees with you taking probiotic.
I took a Probiotic (Align) for several months and it didn't help. We just can't seem to slow it down.
Perhaps 20 minutes before I change my pouch I take a table spoon of peanut butter and a couple of marshmellows, stops everything while I change.
When I play golf I eat hand fulls of plain cherios and continue througout the round, its not cure all but it seems to help. I'll be excited to hear what other have to say.
