During eus last week, a growth from ampulla toward common duct was observed and a tissue sample of 1.8 cm was taken. Results are reactive changes and no dysplasia or malignancy. Pathology is sending tissue samples from past biopsies to Mayo Clinic for second read. How soon will we hear back? Should we do IR to take sample from ampulla
Where has dysplasia’s in thin layer along the lining of ampulla wall to confirm if turned to cancer? One doctor suggested to place an internal drain. Another doctor suggested a variation of Whipple. Patient has been recommended not do Whipple assuming classic version due to her age by doctor suggested internal drain. Can a mini Whipple be an option? Any information on mini Whipple to provide to me? Any other options to treat her condition to clear the obstruction to allow her to digest her food?

Mayo clinic confirmed adenocarcinoma from sample taken in January 2024 during ERCP near ampulla. Still waiting for Mayo on sample taken in April 2024 during EUS on common bile duct. What are next steps like additional testing on cancer type and grade? What oncology specialty to coordinate treatment plan?
