Surgeon missed the margins. 2nd surgery

Yes, I had genetic testing before surgery so we knew I was BRCA2 positive which is why I opted for a double mastectomy and ovaries/tubes out.

LVI is not the same as lymph nodes, but maybe as significant. The way I understand it, it’s cancer cells in the blood vessels in and surrounding the tumor. My lymph nodes were clear. Not everyone with cancer in lymph nodes has LVI according to a study I read. There are different schools of thought on using LVI to determine treatment but there are studies indicating LVI leads to greater risk of recurrence and metastasis and a poorer prognosis. Many believe LVI requires additional treatment. LVI was never discussed with me as a risk factor, but I now see LVI in the breast oncology surgeon’s notes from 2013. I think my case supports that LVI is significant.

I am so sorry that you are having to go through this. I apologize but what does LVI stand for? Lymphovascular invasion? I am going to go back and look over my notes.

Yes, LVI is lymphovascular invasion.

My report does have LVI listed but I can't tell if that is a negative sign after it or a hyphen for the DCIS. I am messaging my doctor about it. Thank you for telling us about it.

On July 25 I am having an mri with dye. I want to have an infusion wash the dye from my system. I have read the gadalinium(sp?) Goes into brain and other organs. Who has had infusion after mri? Does my doctor order it to proceed mri? Do I request? Please respond if you have had infusion. Thank you

Glad to hear you are done. Just had Double mastectomy with reconstruct. DCIS grade 3 - no hormone receptors. They are referring me to radiation onc because margins were clear but close. Appt with onc next week. Really don’t know what to do.

Who has had infusion after breast mri with gadalinium dye. The infusion washes away as much as possible the dye. The dye stays in system and not good.

It is only natural to worry about this. Drink a lot of water and other liquids after the MRI. This will help to flush all the gadalinium out of your system. That was recommended to me by the medical personnel. However, I don't know about any infusion. Maybe your doctor will have a recommendation. Researchers will have studied this extensively, to make sure that the benefits from the MRI will outweigh any risks from the gadalinium dye. I recommend discussing your concerns with your doctor, or other medical people who might know something about it.

Hello, Just seeing this post. Not very good navigating this website. I met with radiation onco and also got 2nd opinion. they both said the risk out weigh the benefits so I chose not to do it. Now at my 6 month MRI check up I have a suspicious lymph node in right armpit. That was the grade 3 DCIS side. They did ultra sound and have a biopsy for that scheduled in Oct. I am beside myself with worry now thinking they missed something.
