After knee replacement surgery

Had left knee replaced 9 days ago. Right knee two years ago. Having a problem with inflammation so hard to bend knee and exercise. Trying to ice and raise knee above heart. Doctor suggested getting compression hose. Anybody have this experience and can offer suggestions. So tired all the time from pain interrupting my sleep and painkillers. My insurance refused to pay for the painkiller recommended by surgeon so have to take one with more opiates. That's frustrating. Two years ago it was covered but now too expensive for me to use. Seems the drug companies, not our doctors are determining what we use.

Like JK, I remember the nurses also recommended it to me to avoid cracked nipples while nursing. That was a while back; 😉 I don't know if that is still the practice!

@contentandwell - Hi JK, there appears to be a "common denominator" - - You recover more quickly than typical; your skin heals better than typical; your pain level is either lower, or better handled than typical ... and let's add in the "red" hair too.

@danielad Dee, I guess I'm just lucky. I say that and then think about all the various things I have or have gone through. Sometimes I wonder, why can't I just be normal? Then I read posts on here by people with problems so much worse than mine and I am grateful that I only have the problems that I have.

@danielad Dee, I guess I'm just lucky. I say that and then think about all the various things I have or have gone through. Sometimes I wonder, why can't I just be normal? Then I read posts on here by people with problems so much worse than mine and I am grateful that I only have the problems that I have.

@danielad Dee, probably it is. I presume you are referring to my rapid recuperations, etc. I really do not like self-pity. I just do what I can do.
I also think I have mellowed a lot with age. I am more positive now, and a heck of a lot less critical. One of the positive things about being an old lady.

Today was a good day. Day 13 after my knee replacement surgery and out came the staples. I also ditched the walker when my wife drove me to the clinic. Gave my cane a test run and was pleasantly surprised. It was kind of funny to watch the two nurse (one a trainee) start taking staples out and then the older nurse asked the young one if she wanted to try removing one. She shook her head and I said hey that's how you learn, give it a try. She smiled and really shook her head no. Then when the older one struggle with a couple of the staples due to the scabbing over the incision she said she was going to go get what's her name who's the resident expert at removing staples. She came in and then it was a team effort, the older lady swabbed the scabs with saline solution to soften them up, the expert removed the staples...and me, I held the gauze pad and wiped the staple removal tool to get the staple and gunk off so she could go after the next one. Fun day, even got the chance to tell the 3 of them about Mayo Clinic Connect. I think I'm going to rest from the exercises for the rest of the day to let everything heal a little more ☺ Might go for a short stroll out in the driveway seeing that the sun is trying to peek out.

just came from Dr. at Core in Sun city West AZ. after waiting 1 3/4 hrs. asked why others go in first, taken in, Dope said she called my name I DID NOT HEAR HER. so she bypassed me until i spoke up. Total 2hrs. 20 min.
T0 get CBD oil - drop under tongue or cream to rub in for pain.
ALSO, to get rid of scars, vitamin e oil from Sprouts.
ps, My great dr. is quitting CORE!

John, in pre-op yesterday as they were inserting my IV the nurses again found out about my Tolly veins. I had 2 starts in my R and L arms. A different person came in and tried 1 and finally John came in for the 4th try and did a wonderful job. Just the right spot and placement so moving my hand and armCause no pain.

It was really nice out this morning so I thought I would take my walker for a few loops around the driveway. Day 14 post op and wanting to drive again really bad. Yesterday was a piece of cake getting in and out of the car on the passenger side which with my bad knee prior to the TKR was really difficult most of the time. It gives me hope of being able to drive in a week or so.
