Weakness in legs after Lobectomy and Chemotherapy.

Posted by k2471147 @k2471147, Apr 18 11:03am

Hello everyone,
I was treated with Carboplatin and Permetrexed after having a LUL in November 2022. I finished the chemotherapy May 2023. Recently,I am finding that my legs have become very weak and I struggle to get up stairs or walk for long periods of time. I’m not breathless just weak.
Has anyone had similar long term side affects ?

Do you have swelling in the lower legs? Has your doctor had any suggestions? Possibly a Physical Therapy assessment?

Hello,I live in France and we see doctors according to their specialty. Quite tricky as they mostly don’t know anything about the patient .It’s altogether weird as there is absolutely no team following each individual and it’s more a case of the patient having to join the dots. I’m still not convinced I needed this surgery as nothing was discussed and it all happened so fast. I underwent the chemotherapy without much discussion as I was still traumatized by the diagnosis and the surgery. The oncologist was recommended by the surgeon and didn’t discuss any possible side affects so much of my information is through the Internet.

My entire body was weak after chemotherapy, especially the second time. My oncologist referred me to physical therapy. There was an entire cancer physical therapy team. It was a great experience & helped me immensely. I would ask for that referral if you are able.

Please talk to your primary care doctor about this as well as your oncologist. Having cancer doesn't mean other conditions can't arise. You might want a referral to a neurologist, orthopedist, or rheumatologist depending on what you and your doctor decide.

Thank you Denzie. I will now get my GP involved and hopefully will get to the bottom of it. I appreciate your time to reply.
