After knee replacement surgery

Had left knee replaced 9 days ago. Right knee two years ago. Having a problem with inflammation so hard to bend knee and exercise. Trying to ice and raise knee above heart. Doctor suggested getting compression hose. Anybody have this experience and can offer suggestions. So tired all the time from pain interrupting my sleep and painkillers. My insurance refused to pay for the painkiller recommended by surgeon so have to take one with more opiates. That's frustrating. Two years ago it was covered but now too expensive for me to use. Seems the drug companies, not our doctors are determining what we use.

Hi everyone. Going on six months. The knee will be ok, then something moves in there and then it grabs and hurts and tightens up. Then tonight on the way up the stairs from the basement, the knee that was supposed to be replaced first started hurting so much i had to stop and wait. It is very swollen on one side of the knee and I just give up. I fall asleep with ice on my legs. I had to quit pain all pain meds; my system just can't take any more. Even Tylenol upsets my stomach and if i eat too much more i will gain weight so eating with the meds is useless.

And the arthritis in my thumb scares me because i don't know if they can do anything for that and i use my thumb to work and about everything else.
I feel like i'm 100. At this rate, i won't be able to lose any weight which is most likely the only thing that will possibly make the replaced knee stop hurting. Well maybe not. something in there moves. All the surgeon and PA say is it's normal to hurt for a year sometimes.

Anyone else experience movement in the knee followed by pain, grabbing, poking, etc.?

Hi everyone. Going on six months. The knee will be ok, then something moves in there and then it grabs and hurts and tightens up. Stem cells was first found to help with arthritis. Mayo Clinic was where I found out about that.

Hi gailfaith -- Thank you for pointing out to me how blessed I am with my knee replacement! I have some very minor concerns, and to put it in perspective, my concern about the scar is minor, too. My knee is coming along as expected for 8 weeks post-op, and in general, I'm doing very well. My range of motion is 107, and I'm working hard to increase that number. Thanks very much for your reply!

Sorry. The second knee had stem cells. I told myself I would not go through TKR again. What I have found out is the surgeons say stem cells does not work. Don't blame them. Have to eat etc.

So sorry.It took me a year to get over pain with my TKR.My partial knee replacement was much easier.I think you need to see another doctor;I had both knees done at Mayo and never experienced what you experienced. In fact I was told that if this happened to contact them.

I recently learned of Mayo Clinic's Regenerative Medicine Consult Service. You can find it here, http://mayocl.in/1Ag7duN. This consult service will offer information on stem cell therapy, whether you qualify for Mayo Clinic or not. "Mayo Clinic provides educational guidance and appropriate referrals to research studies and clinical trials in stem cell therapies."

It might be worth your time to call and ask about legitimate centers that offer stem cell treatment, even if you do not intend on trying to come to Mayo Clinic. I hope this helps cut through the noise a little bit, as there are many centers promising miracle results.

@winning, did the surgeons tell you that stem cells don't work after they gave them to you?

yes, they gave me the odds. Friend had his hip done and they told him 50-50. The success rates are also listed on the regenexx web site. Have friends who have not had it work and some many who have had it work. I also see many sites opening up in our area and i tell people to be careful. A chiropractor opened an off for stem cells. Not sure of that. Prices vary also. I feel its up to the individual to make the decision. I did not want to go through tkr again so it was an easy decision. So far, so good.
