My experience with pneumonectomy and quality of life
Before i has my pneumonectomy in November 2022 there were many fears about the loss of quality of life. I’m happy to report that I’m very happy and thankful i had the surgery. My scans have been clear. I’ve been able to walk several miles/day. I play 9 holes of golf walking 3 miles a few times/week. All in all, for a 76 year old male I’m pretty happy. The only problem i have is walking up steep hills gets me out of breath.

That is awesome. I had a lobectomy a year ago and I too get out of breath walking up inclines. So your status sounds awesome to me.

1 ReactionJust what i hoped for. My biggest fear prior to this major surgery was the loss of quality of life. Frankly, it’s been minor.

1 Reaction@sonshine161, The unknown of losing any lung capacity is a scary thought. It's great to hear that you came through it so well. All we really want is to live our lives, doing the things that we enjoy.

2 Reactions@sonshine161, wow, good for you! I had my upper right lung lobe removed almost 6 years ago, and I still get winded walking up steep hills. And I'm impressed that you're walking that much while playing golf. You're a rock star!

1 ReactionHi
Thanks for the compliment, but I’m no rock star. I still get winded going up hills but i do push myself. It’s my cardio vascular exercise for the week. Haha!

2 ReactionsHoly Smokes!! I thought i was doing pretty well but I’m no Mountain climber.
I’m just finishing my 3rd year after having my entire left lung removed. I was afraid of quality of life issues going forward but it has worked out better than i expected. I play 9 hole rounds of golf 3 times a week. I just ’ came back from 16 days in Italy where i walked between 50-100 miles. And best of all NED after 3 years. Best decision was to go ahead with the surgery which i had done at Mass General in Boston.
