Following My Father's Footsteps

Actually, I'm not currently following them exactly. Unfortunately, they often lead him down, rather than forward. However, I am experiencing exactly what he was at my age of 47. He has been diagnosed with a neurological disorder, but I don't know which specific one. The shame of it is that, for years, doctors have been telling him to drink a lot of water and get up and at least walk around the house. His preference has been to remain horizontal and dehydrated every day. I think there is a lot of depression going on as well. He's a big guy who was a fireman for 20 years and I can only imagine what it must be like to experience becoming incapable of once easy tasks. It's really tuff to watch because I can understand why he's given up, yet, if he listened to the doctors sooner, he wouldn't be in the state he's currently in.

Hi @to68 While it must be hard to experience symptoms like your father's that debilitated him, it is encouraging that you know that you have choices and that you don't need to follow his footsteps exactly.
What type of symptoms are your experiencing? Have you been to see a doctor about them?

Sorry it took so long to reply. I didn’t notice the notification indicater until now. Thanks for replying. Yes, I'm glad that I realize that I have choices and don't have to make the same ones my father has. My symptoms are difficult to describe. I feel it all in my head and mostly can be described as a strange feeling of dizziness. I say strange because I don't feel as though it's a typical dizziness that is commonly felt after spinning around for a while, for example. There are other sensations as well that I can't think of any good way to describe. I have mentioned this to a few doctors and they all think I have a sinus infection and prescribe antibiotics. I know that's not the problem, but it's the only answer I ever get. Another common issue I have with my dad is unceasing fatigue regardless of how much sleep I get.
