Parasite infection - natural remedy vs antibiotic
Hi,
I had a comprehensive stool test done six months ago and it found that I was infected by the dientamoeba fragiis trophs parasite. I was keen to eradicate it naturally so my nutritionist put me on a course of grapefruit seed extract, black walnut and wormwood, oil of oregano and probiotics supplements. Four months later I had another stool test done and it is still there. Very frustrating.
I am now leaning towards the 'medical' route of Iodoquinol which I have heard is very effective. Will this knock out lots of beneficial bacteria? If so, I guess I can take lots of kefir, live yoghurt and probiotics to help?
Hoping someone can advise as to how damaging Iodoquinol can be to healthy bacteria...
Thanks in advance
Andy

Welcome @production675.
Good questions. I found this article about Foods that Replenish Good Bacteria in the Intestinal Tract http://www.livestrong.com/article/418456-what-foods-replenish-good-bacteria-in-the-intestinal-tract/ However, you should always consult with your doctor or pharmacist about probiotics and which foods to eat and avoid.
I wonder if @liliane @Paula_MAC2007 or @katemn might have anything to add?
Hello Andy, glad you found this Forum .. and sorry to hear the difficult row you’ve had to hoe! Tough! I know zero about parasites or about lodoquinol .. BUT I did take 4-5 antibiotics for thirty months for a lung disease. So I do know a bit about that.
What I did to maintain to healthy bacteria in my body was to find THREE probiotics with the MOST billion probiotics .. then I daily rotated the three. Feeling that by doing so I would get the benefit of a variety of probiotics. In doing so in those thirty months I did not once get any kind of yeast infection.
I have now been off those antibiotics since May 2014 and still take a probiotic daily because I so believe in them for general health. I recently came across a GREAT Probiotic! Had I known about it before .. frankly I might NOT have bothered with the rotation of those THREE probiotics!
It is: NOW PROBIOTIC 10-50 BILLION. It has: 50 Billion and Healthy Intestinal Flora*, KEEP REFRIGERATED TO MAINTAIN POTENCY •10 Probiotic Strains •Dairy, Wheat & Gluten Free - Vegetarian/Vegan Formula
The best price I have found for it is at Amazon.com

Also just read something interesting on probiotics .. thought I'd share:

Over the past 4-5 years, I've tried a few probiotics after talking with docs & pharmacist - fortunately, I've had no digestive or stomach or yeast infection issues with the 3 drugs I've been on. So out of curiosity (or whatever, probably thinking I needed a probiotic) about 3 years ago, I took one that needed to be refrigerated - took this for about a year. It didn't make any difference to me, so I stopped it. I also take a Centrum multi-vitamin, 2 calcium tables, & prescription vitamin D, so adding another pill to the mix didn't appeal to me unless absolutely necessary. Neither my internist or pulmonologist have encouraged me taking a probiotic. . . only said to try it, But that's just ME . . . each of you could be different.
If you 'google' MAC, you can now find quite a bit of information on it. Best to read from various sites, as the info does differ a little. I don't have any thoughts on food to eat or avoid -- since many of us have different habit & dietary restrictions, I'd suggest don't deviate from eating what makes you well.
Most important (for me) is to get plenty of rest (even if I can't sleep), the proper kind of exercise for my particular situation, take my meds, and communication with my doctors. I feel really good this summer!
