Loss of BMD in hips after taking Forteo or teriparatide?
I’m scheduled to start a biosimilar to Forteo in a couple of weeks and I just read a post today from a woman who lost bone density in her hips after being on Forteo. I got interrupted and couldn’t find the post again, so I’m asking the question here as now I’m afraid to start. My T-score in my spine is -3.1 and my hips are -2.8. I’m borderline whether I need an anabolic and the only reason I’m doing it is because I downhill ski, as well as cross-country and backcountry skiing. I can’t afford to lose in my hips. My endocrinologist warned I may lose in my forearm, but she didn’t say anything about losing in my hips. Now I’m wondering if I should not start it and just go on a Actonel, Reclast or Prolia …. Or do nothing! This is all scaring me silly.

Stanford can be a bit of a wait, so try to be aggressive in scheduling by calling for cancellations. My favorite can be tricky to schedule. Your numbers say "hurry." It might be good to try for a prescription of Forteo while you wait.

We have a home in Fresno also where my husbands business is.
I am by myself 90 percent of the time in yountville or Roseville so I get so worried about doing the injections. I have tymlos in the refrigerator right now and an injection training at 1 today. I spoke to Mc Cormick and he thinks a thousand percent I should be on evenity. He is concerned and said if I asked 10 Endos they would all say evenity. I like how Windyshores doc is allowing her to try a small dose of reclast due to her health.
I’m curious why Dr. McCormick said a thousand percent you should be on Evenity. Do you mind if I ask your t-score? I consulted with Dr McCormick and he recommended Forteo for me, not Evenity. He said he didn’t have many patients on Evenity but they all had joint pain, and it’s a new drug. He seemed more comfortable with Forteo as it has been around 20 years and is generally well tolerated. My t-score is -3.1 spine and -2.7 hip

I am scared out of my mind. No one but you ladies to talk with and I appreciate everyone so much. I’ll do my first tymlos Monday morning. Kind of nervous about doing it in the weekend for some reason.

3 ReactionsSorry for the typos in that last message. Yes Mc Cormick is an amazing man. He says he has seen worse then me. They think I never built enough bone as a kid. I am 65 and tall and have so many gut issues.
Did you have issues with forteo? I’ll start the tymlos like Windyshores says at a lower dose and work up quickly.

2 ReactionsI understand completely. I honestly don't know how I would have handled this whole situation without the help of some amazing, intelligent and kind ladies on this support group forum. I haven't started teriparatide yet (I'm going to take a Forteo biosimilar called Osnuvo). I'm scared silly to start this coming Thursday April 11 (with injection training by a nurse). Thankfully some wonderful people on this site have been giving me the assurances and support I very much need. If there is anything I can do to help you, please do not hesitate to private message me. I'm around on the weekend:) Fingers crossed all goes well and you (and me) will breathe a big sign of relief after our first couple of injections:)

McCormick is suggesting Evenity because as he says, "it gets you out of a hole the fastest." However, you can do Evenity after Tymlos.
Evenity "turbo charges" bone growth first as a bone builder and then as an anti-resorptive. Tymlos builds quality bone the whole time and is not an anti-resorptive (anti-resorptives alter bone turnover).
Your scores are not good so he is probably worried you might fracture. But Tymlos does most of its work in the first year or even sooner so I think it is a good drug. If you don't like it, you will have a way to get insurance for Evenity!

U am starting it this Monday.
I have that low blood pressure like you. Mine is 90 over 50 most of the time so I’ll eat salty things before and I like the idea of trying it in the morning. I would prefer to do the first one with someone here with me or at my docs office.
