Recently diagnosed with severe osteoporosis of lumbar spine -3.4 T sco
I just saw an endocrinologist (referred by my OB/GYN) and all of my bloodwork came out within normal ranges. Although she did not test my sex hormones (which I believe is the cause of my sudden diagnosis - went from osteophenia of lumbar spine in July 2021 and repeated my bone density test in January 2023) (2 1/2 years later) which revealed my t score of -3.4 (from -2.3). I went through menopause at age 60 as well in 2022. She now wants me to take a 3 step therapy program with either Evenity, or Foreto or Tylmos and then after this therapy is finished to go on Prolia several years and then take an oral or iv bisphosphonate. Has anyone else been on any of these medications and did you have success with bone density and did you experience any severe side effects?

@doglover1962 so sorry about your mom. I lost mine 10/22 and bereavement counseling has helped a lot. Sorry about the dog too. Glad to hear teriparatide is going well!
Good evening, @doglover1962. I couldn't pass you by, and not just because I am also a dog lover. In addition to being passionately in love with Cavalier King Charles Spaniels, especially my Kala, Roxie, and Reggie, I have been following what appears to be a recommended program to prevent Osteoporosis. My choice was Tymlos, and I had no problems, side effects, or disappointments. However, my body did not welcome Prolia, which was my provider's choice. After seeking consultation from the Mayo Clinic, I began a once-a-week Alendronate capsule and am very thankful that I have had only positive results.
One of my body issues appears to be that I cannot tolerate medication that has a long half-life. Prolia is a twice-a-year injection, which just was not accepted well, including jaw pain, which scared me. In August this summer, I will have the scan and tests to see how well Alendronate is working to hold my bone density in the healthy section.
I hope your decisions are the best choices for you to protect your bone health.
May you be safe, protected and free from inner and outer harm.
Chris
What collagen do you take? So this will boost bone mass?
I do take oral collagen hoping it will help me keep healthy bones, but when I posted it takes awhile for the collagen laid to mineralize, was quoted from my endocrinologist when we were talking about teriparatide effects showing up in a DEXA.
Is this the same as Echolight scan? I was considering flying to Vancouver/Toronto for one.
When I searched Echolight and REMS in Canada, Wosler Diagnostics in Calgary came up. They said they offered the scan for osteoporosis and that people came to them from other areas Their phone number is 403 741-4133. The cost is $150.00 Canadian and doesn't require a physician referral.
windyshores, thank you for your sympathy. I am sorry you lost your mom as well. It's so hard. Any now I am afraid of dogs when I have always loved them and was planning to rescue one. Never had a dog before and thought eventually I would. Not sure about that now. I am relieved too with taking teriparatide working out good. I think I would have already experienced common side effects by now, right? It's been a week.
@doglover1962 yes, (in my view and experience) you would know by now if teriparatide was not going to work out! Yay!
