Recently my nails split in the middle and cannot grow due to breakage.

You might try wearing lotion gloves to bed. The soft, white, cottony gloves are sometimes sold at CVS but are always available at amazon.com. Kiehl’s and L’Occitane make good but pricy hand creams; CeraVe cream costs less and is also good. I find the thicker creams easier to apply than lotions. Experiment until you find a product you like, and then keep it on a tray on your nightstand to apply just before lights out. You will need more than one pair of gloves in order to launder them. Machine-wash them when you change your sheets.

I have eczema and my nails come out of the cuticle split already and my actual nail beds are dried out too. It's not all my nails, like 5 but all of my nails are really bumpy, even if I file them, they will go back. They're thin, brittle and weak. I always thought it was the eczema

I had a big split in my thumbnail that was chronic until I started taking Vit. B. That totally cured it and I no longer have to take the vitamin.

Hi…I also was having consistent problems with splitting and peeling fingernails. I stopped using nail polish and nail polish remover and the problem has pretty much disappeared. I miss have fun and pretty nails, but I love having strong nails. Good luck!

Nail polish remover with acetone is harsh on nails and I use remover without acetone. I don’t regularly use polish but like to use clear from time to time. It’s the cuticles that I have to keep on top of.

I’ve tried it too, but it’s such a pain. It doesn’t work that well, imo. What brand do you use?

I don’t use any particular brand but currently have Cutex. With non acetone you use more so I tend to soak the pads and hold for a few seconds on each nail and find that effective. I also have an old bottle of acetone that’s handy for getting glue off things.
