I have started taking 600 to 900 mg of alpha lipoic acid daily to hopefully lessen lower back pain and sciatica. I usually take it with food but have noticed since approximately the same time I started taking it that I have indigestion and discomfort during the middle of the night. I am not sure that it is alpha lipoic acid but highly suspect it. Prior to increasing the dosage and for some time have been taking 300 mg daily with no discernible effects. Has anyone else had any problems with gastric or esophageal problems while taking ALA in the dosages mentioned?

I take 600 mg ALA (for small fiber neuropathy pain) and asked my gastroenterologist and surgeon if ALA causes stomach issues and they said ‘no’. I do have gastritis and esophagitis diagnosed via endoscopy and I take Omeprazole for it. It is due to taking too many NSAIDS for too long. Coffee, acidic foods/beverages can aggravate your stomach, especially if ingested later in day before bedtime.
