Low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL)
I am 74 years old and had all but one ovary removed in 1988. That ovary was resorbed fairly quickly and I went through abrupt menopause. I haven’t had a Pap test for quite a while - not needed in my case per guidelines.
A new Gynecologist said because I had cryosurgery for a Pre-cancerous condition on my 20’s I should have one.
The result just came in and it says:
Low grade squamous intraepithelial lesion (LSIL)
I haven’t spoken to Doc yet but this seems bizarre??

Yes- this happened to me and I was 61 at the time. I had precancerous cells in my 20’s that were frozen off 2X then nothing till 40 years later.
My result after biopsy was a later stage of cancer stage 3 and fast growing Squamish cell cancer.
It had gotten into lymph nodes
I had regular Pap smears all through these 40 past years and nothing.
Needless to say I had surgery ,chemo & radiation. I am in my 5th year of negative Pet scans.
Im happy to hear yours sounds like a different story and glad it was the slow growing. Good luck and prayers.
Looking forward to hearing more of your story.
Good Gawd how does that happen?? I thought vaginal cancers didn’t tend to be aggressive growers?? And why didn’t Pap detect it?
It’s all about that damn HPV. The first oncologist did an oblation on cervix but missed the lymph node It all transpired over 6 months until I got 2nd opinion It was that one in a million and happened to me. I was one out of 30 cases my radiation oncologist had seen throughout her decades of experience.
I guess it starts with another exam under magnification and lights and then likely colposcopy to send another sample off to pathology. Then we see. Her nurse said she may just watch it for a while depending on the outcome of the exam. I’m not going to be a fan of waiting. She said sometimes they call it wrong.
Hmmmm.
Thank you all for your contributions. I went today for the colposcopy. She found an area that had a different appearance than neighboring cells. She biopsied that and expects the lab report to say I should have another pap in a year. She also told me that even if I never had an abnormal pap, they left one ovary and notwithstanding it has resorbed, the cells are still there and could turn cancerous.
@naturegirl5
@pb50 Thank you for sharing this update. I hope that the biopsy doesn't show anything of concern. Your gynecologist certainly is on top of your things and I hope will continue to follow you. Did she say when she expects to hear back from the lab about your biopsy?
No but my experience in this area is that they are really responsive. It won’t surprise me to see it tomorrow morning.
She didn’t seem to expect them to find anything that suggests A needed response.
Thanks for your interest
@pb50 Oh, I'm so happy to hear that you'll get the pathology results back so quickly. In my experience (locally) pathology has signed out results quickly but then it gets held up it transmit to my physician. That's really frustrating. Now that I'm going to other practices outside my local area (Mayo Clinic and Bellin Health) I get results within a day or two. Anyway, it's nice that your gynecologist gave you her impression.
It would seem you are correct. 🙂 no report this morning. At the multidisciplinary clinic where I get most of my care (but didn’t like the Gyn doc) they have their own lab for most things so I’m accustomed to quick results. Given this is Friday I guess I won’t see results until Monday earliest.
Thank you.
