Husband’s CA19-9 plunged by 90%

Hi,
My husband just finished 11 rounds of chemo with oxaliplatin and irinitican. During this time, he also has been working with a nutritionist to clean up his diet, taking some Rick Simpson cannibis oil, doing red light theray and high dose Vitamin C drips. His CA19-9 plunged by 90% during the six months and after a recent CT scan, the surgeon scheduled Whipple surgery. The surgeon feels there is a more than 50% chance he will be able to remove the entire mass. Leading up to surgery, my husband is gaining strength after chemo and keeping up with the holistic therapies he has been doing during his treatment regime. The surgeon expressed that only 15% of his patients have the response rate to the chemo my husband has had. We believe that all of his complimentary efforts are paying off. Anyone else have this kind of success with chemo alone?

Hello! And congratulation on this victory! He will get through the surgery with flying colors!
I just finished a modified folfirinox plan, but without the oxaliplatin and on a smaller dosage of the rest of the cocktail.
I am doing well. Ca19 9
Has gone down from 650 to 52 in 5 months.
I do take alternative treatment too. I have been taking Holy Basil extract, cryptolepsis, black seed oil and fenbendazol. It's hard to say what kind of impact the chemo alone has given me.
This is me second bout with chemo. The first was 27 months ago. Had whipple and gemcitabine with abraxane.
All I can say is keep moving forward through the hard times. Just keep moving. You'll make it!

Great to hear you are doing well! Did you add in the alternative support during the first round of chemo and leading up to your surgery? How was the recovery from the surgery for you? My husband’s surgeon said 4-8 weeks recovery.

I had the whipple prior to having chemo. It brought my ca 19 9 down from 185 to 27. The followed that with 6 months gemcitabine
And abraxane. Afterthe surgery, I was cancer free. I recovered from the surgery in about 6 weeks. I started walking and exercising almost immediately after surgery, depending on fatigue. 20 months after the surgery, the cancer returned...and then the amended folfirinox treatment.
I exercise alot now, with weight training and light aerobics.
Trying to eat alot more vegetables and berries.
At present, just had chemo yesterday so the nausea is pretty tough.
In response to your question about taking alternative things during first chemo, I think I only took vit d, 10,000 units daily, green tea capsules and resveratrol. Hope this helps somehow.
I'm sure your husband will be recovering quickly from surgery!

So sorry you are dealing with that after chemo nausea. I watched my husband go through 11 rounds of chemo. The treatments were tougher on him with each new round. It is not easy. I wish you strength and healing as you go through this process. My husband found that cannibis (Rick Simpson oil in particular) helped him with the nausea better than any nausea meds they gave him, without their side effects. ALthough, it did make him feel high so it was fortunate that he got to stay at home during treatments.

You can probably try a CBD with low THC content that will help with the nausea without the high!

I have no experience with the chemo whatsoever but I do do with the Whipple. It seems to be a godsend. If they will do it let them do it and get it done, the very sooner the better!!!

Did your surgeon mention other factors relating to why surgery would be postponed? My husband’s levels started around 2300 and shrank to around 244. His most recent CA19 test was last Tuesday. His surgery is scheduled for April 17. Sounds like around the time you will have yours. Wishing you success.

The Whipple surgery for sure is not to be taken lightly. It is a dramatic surgery. I’m hoping it all goes well Godspeed.
