What supplements help Osteopenia, Osteoporosis?

Posted by grace1215 @grace1215, Feb 4, 2020

Hi, I am a new member here and wanted to find out if anyone has used AlgaeCal Plus & Strontium Citrate for Osteopenia? I have had this condition for 10 years now plus five years with Osteoarthritis of the hip which I am hoping will help not only my hip but the DEXA scan came up with Osteopenia scores.

I had severe Osteoporosis...(didnt know until I went for bone density check)...specialist put me on "Citracal" which is Calcium Citrate + vitamin D. as well as Vitamin D3, and magnesium (both over counter) . I took over one year, along with a regular activity ..I did water fitness and after one year, I started to see a change in my condition... Now after 2 years, My Osteoporosis reading is now a normal.

That's great, actually pretty incredible. Could you post your t-scores so we could see the measured changes? Thanks

Your post gives me hope. I have osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. I notice in stores that I find only vitamin D-3. I never find vitamin D. I like to use magnesium with vitamin D as ive read magnesium and D vitamin work together .
I'll try heath food stores and mail order as there is nothing out here. Thank you again and hope your bones get better and better. Pam

It looks like calcium and Vit D supplements may be a double-edged sword. Increasing the risk of death from heart issues while reducing it from cancer. Then there is our bones.

I haven't gotten any firm answers from any of the docs I encountered so far regarding calcium supplyment. Will be seeing a cardiogist recommended by several doctors. If she has some definitive saying on this, I will post it here.

@normahorn I read that study about calcium and Vitamin D this morning and am not sure it is anything new in terms of concerns expressed in the past. But also the calcium supplementation was high and the D3 supplementation low, in my view, and there was no K2. And what choice do we have? Best to get calcium and vitamins from food but some of us are dairy free. I bought sardines yesterday 🙂

Moderation may be the key.

Any Brand will work..just make sure it has black pepper..I know that sounds strange..but Pepper helps absorb the Tumeric...you wont taste it ..capsule format...

I use calcium, vitamin k and vitamin D 3
Seems to help.
Dexa scores are not accurate.
I wouldn’t go by those scores alone.
