Have had a most severe attack of vertigo 30 years ago, still undiagnos

I have had a sever attack of vertigo almost 30 years after taking food from a Chinese restaurant, It awakened me from sleep, I also have had nystagmus (as I could see things jerking back and forth), Next day I kept on vomiting whole day. I dont have any ringing in ears, pressure in my ears or deafness. MRI of brain was done but was clear. Now I don't have vertigo but have unsteadiness of and on accompanied by nausea and occasional vomiting. My audiometry done about one year ago just showed some age related hearing loss. I take betahistine and prochlorperazine together as needed and that seems to help. thanks for any insight.

A PT can test you for BPPV, which involves nystagmus. I hope you can schedule a test. Do you take meclizine and zofran? Do they help? Sorry you are going through this.

Chinese food has MSG in it and a lot of sodium. I looked it up and it said that sodium was a big trigger for vertigo. I do have ringing in the ears and too much sodium makes mine worse...I know you posted you do not have that. Praying for you. Vertigo is so hard. Vertigo for me has always been brought on by sinus/migraines. Blessings....

You certainly have dealt with this for a long time now. It sounds like symptomatic treatment has been helpful despite no true diagnosis. I didn't have much diagnostics for my vertigo as it was assumed to be associated with my surgery, but then later when it recurred my doctor tried the Epley maneuver for BPPV and that improved it a lot. I still have periodic dizziness and occasional vertigo that I can control with Prochlorperazine, but sinus pressure and headaches seem to bring it on. Have you asked for a referral to a specialist for this problem?
