Newly diagnosed. Extremely frightened. Surgeon says lumpectomy and possible radiation. Awaiting results for HER2. Radiation scares me. I would appreciate any thoughts

Radiation was easy. Bring questions in writing. I had to inhale and hold my breath. 20 visits. I used Aquaphor and Calendula creams. No burns.

Hi, Just finished 20 rounds of radiation. ILC lumpectomy.
Declined tamoxifen due to unopposed estrogen risk for uterine cancer.
I will try anastazole. Not thrilled about the potential of causing more health problems at age 72. Dexascan came back as low bone density.

At one year on Anastrozole I had no change in bone density . Will be checking in April at year two. Best to you.

I had the same thing, and went through with the radiation therapy, Honestly, I had zero ill effects from it. It did not even make me tired. Mine was over 20 yrs. Ago so probably radiation is even better now. Very best wishes to you.

Hello @mimzy I was thinking about this thread this morning. How are you doing?

I had the lumpectomy on 2/28. Sentinel nodes were negative for cancer. Hooray. The past 2 days, I have developed a hematoma over the incision site. I applied a dry sterile dressing and it leaked through it and onto my shirt twice. Surgeon was out today but nurse said I was doing all the right things. It is painful. No fever or other signs of infection. Has this happened to anyone in this group? Thank you for your support

@mimzy
Good to hear from you. Glad the lumpectomy is over. Praying that your hematoma clears up quickly. Zebra
