Other NON-drug oriented forums

Do you follow any other Osteoporosis groups that are not mostly about drugs?

Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the Osteoporosis & Bone Health Support Group.

McCormick will recommend drugs if needed, and alternative "whole body" approaches if meds are not (yet) needed. His first book is "A Whole Body Approach to Osteoporosis" and his recent book "Great Bones" is even more comprehensive (700pages!).

I don’t know of any “all natural” osteoporosis forums. But in addition to the other Doctors mentioned try following Dr Doug Lucas. He uses meds as a last resort.
I’ve learned a lot from the Mayo forum but it seems that all natural post eventually get turned into a push for meds…

Honestly, I've NEVER felt any post was a, "push for drugs." Education, yes ...🩷! The information is offered from real life experiences and I'm so very, very appreciative/grateful for all those in connect who dedicate their time and share their knowledge. The topics have been endless. Helping guide us thru the financial stresses, side effects, sequencing drugs (so important), foods best for OP, exercise, etc.. Also, having pointed us all to some of the best resources out there, expanding our understanding of this neglected disease.

I just cannot thank everyone in here enough...it has helped to allay so many of the fears I first felt when diagnosed.

THANK YOU ALL.

@cpd54 - I understand where your coming from , however there is a point at which some are at that no matter what they do it’s going to be difficult to impossible to build the bones back quickly enough to really decrease the risk of fracture. Bone remodeling takes years. Meds don’t have to be for a life time as was once thought. They can provide a boost to get you back to a more safe level and then all along the way one needs to do all the other things- eat well , take supplements as indicated, exercise, decrease your stress, get good sleep, etc. Hope that makes sense.

Agree100%. Thank you for that and great post! Sometimes our Topics of Interest get sidetracked b/c some may ask a question. So our conversations ebb & flow naturally, that's the beauty in here. I once told a newcomer read under every post, you'll find nuggets/treasures of great information shared that varied from topic. We are working outside the mainstream think tank with real life experiences.
Big pharmas push to garner profits, in which our safety & well being is not necessarily their goal, has to change. Complicated also by insurance coverage not based on results but cost. I truly think we can change the course of physicians in sequencing drugs with the better understanding we have and demanding what we feel is best.

If someone wants a Topic exclusive to their request there is no better example than this fabulous post as an example to follow.
