my situation is similar, I have 80 % blockage in right carotid, I am Asymptomatic, and have seen my internest, and vascular surgeon, both are pushing for surgery, carotid
edarterectomy. I am 79, working full time as office administrator, walking hour or more everyday, active, and living independently Concerned about after surgery, I want to be able to be able to return to my normal way of life, after recovery. Open for discussion.

I had my right carotid artery cleaned out a few years ago. Based on a x-ray, my Cardiologist believed my blockage was probably in the 80 percent range. After the operation the surgeon came in and told me I was he luckest guy he knows ! He quickly reponded that it was because my carotid artery was 99. 9 percent blocked with just a pinhole allowing blood to trickle through and that I could have stroked out at any time. After a few days I was back to my normal routine of playing pickleball 3-4 times a day, walking my dog twice a day and mowing my yard.
