Dermographia itch

Posted by pampas @pampas, Feb 24 9:50am

I have been diagnosed with dermographia. Anyone has tips on how to deal with the itching at night? I have been taking 1 Zyrtec 10 mg a day, with limited success. I still have periods of intense itching, which prevent me fro sleeping.

Good evening @markgventnor. I was so happy to read your post. I heartedly applaud your response about Dupixent. I truly don't think I could have survived the "itch" that was not only controlling but also taking my life. I just started my 18th month of twice-a-month pen injections. It is so wonderful that I have no outside atopic itches and none of the interior neuropathic itch.

Yes, your response helped me remember how fortunate I am. I will see my dermatologist in a few days. She is going to be thrilled, especially when she sees legs and arms without scratch marks all over them.

May you be safe, free, and protected from inner and outer harm.
Chris

Thank you. Saw three dermatologist before I was helped. Took too many different med to mention and nothing helped. I was really getting down. The itch was driving me crazy, I was unable to sleep. I was a wreck. Finally, I was given the dupixent and my skin now is clear. Will continue with the shots until told to stop. Occasional itching, but nothing like I suffered for six months. My legs, arms, chest, and back were covered in red dots.

Good Luck.

Thank you for your comments. Fortunately my skin doesn’t present rashes of any kind. At least I don’t have to contend with that. But the itching is bad, from head to toes.

Good afternoon @pampas This is so rewarding....to learn that others are responding well to Dupixent for neuropathic itch. I do not have rashes either. I just make my arms and legs a mess by scratching them. I even broke the skin with my fingernails attempting to find relief.
As I mentioned, Dupixent has completely changed my life. Just knowing that the itch is under control makes every day something to anticipate positively.

May you be free of itch suffering and the causes of itch suffering.

It might help to take an earlier generation antihistamine like Benadryl
at night. Your physician may try a different dosing schedule or combination
treatment if you are otherwise healthy. Your lifestyle and occupation can dictate what you can take safely.
Melatonin can aid in sleep induction and is less likely to give AM drowsiness.
Have you had any allergy testing?

Yes, I have been tested for allergies, and I have all the environmental ones (mites, pollens, mold, etc). I intend to go back to my dermatologist.
