It might help to take an earlier generation antihistamine like Benadryl
at night. Your physician may try a different dosing schedule or combination
treatment if you are otherwise healthy. Your lifestyle and occupation can dictate what you can take safely.
Melatonin can aid in sleep induction and is less likely to give AM drowsiness.
Have you had any allergy testing?

@seniormed what is “an earlier generation” Benadryl?

Also, does Benadryl affect the liver long term like Tylenol and other OTC and prescriptions do? With my fatty liver disease that is always foremost on my mind when considering any medications.

It might also help to stop the daytime antihistamine which can disturb sleep at night. Try 1/2 a Benadryl if you weigh less than 150 since it can cause drowsiness the next morning. If not a whole pill will probably help a lot. I’ve taken it for itchiness and it helps me sleep like a baby through the night with no waking. I don’t take daytime antihistamine anymore bc it caused me to wake at night too much.

Yes, I have been tested for allergies, and I have all the environmental ones (mites, pollens, mold, etc). I intend to go back to my dermatologist.
