Anyone using oxycodone to manage cancer pain? Please share.

My pain management team want to start me on oxycodone. I am somewhat afraid of its side effects. Anyone who is on it, please share your experiences.

she only had it done 4 days ago. It seems like the pain has subsided but not completely gone yet and she was at least able to sleep through the night which is huge! I’m hoping it just takes a few days to be gone completely.

I hope it works @kathy59270. You sound like such a loving and caring sister; everyone should be so lucky to have a sister like you!

As far as the oxycodone, I’ve been lucky enough to have very transient pain at this point and not had to take anything so far. My husband, however, has severe arthritic pain in his beck and neck and has been on a high dose of oxy for many years. My goal is to make sure he gets surgery so that he would only have to take that med sporadically or something maybe like methadone as @waltsocal mentioned in his post. Please continue to let us know if your sister’s procedure is effective for her level of pain.

My experience is that Oxy take effect very fast but only last for 3-4 hours. I am only taking it at night to help with sleep. In the day time, I take Tylenol to reduce the pain to manage level.

Yes, in the hospital it never worked and I needed dilaudin (spell check) now that I am home I got the dosage increased to 10mg. But I still need it changed to 3 times a day from2

Morning - just adding my info in case it may be helpful.
(for reference - Whipple last June; 6 week hospital stay after nicking bowl - in and out of the hospital for various things last year. Currently doing 5 doses of radiation for lesion on my T4)

I currently take one 10mg tablet of oxycodone in the morning and one at night.
Additionally, I take one 5mg Methadone tablet morning and night.

(side note on the Oxy - it is hard to get sometimes and they are very strict on it)

Also, I take MiraLax every other day - it seems to keep me balanced for my BM.

Hope this info helps someone.

Just someone in the current process and no expert at all. I would seek a 2nd opinion as soon as possible. The surgery is dramatic and takes a lot out of you for several months. I’m currently 66 and ended up in the hospital for 6 weeks after the surgery because of a mistake they made. It is such a serious surgery that you need to be 100% sure this surgery is for you.

Best wishes

Thank a lot to answer! Muchasss gracias !!!

I love and like Clinica Mayo. I went there years ago. They remove my gallbladder … was excellent experience, but too expensive ! I live in Puerto Rico, I’ll need housing, travel.. and may my insurance paid something like the first time but…!!

I just have a cyst in the head in my pancreas … somebody know if there is treatment to disappear this cyst ( precancerous ) instead of a Whipple ?
