Insurance reimbursement & Medicare

@cwal In general, I believe you are correct, but some of them tell me if I have an Rx, they will provide me with what I need to file a claim. However, my nebulizer supplies are so cheap at some places that they are less than my copay would be at an "authorized" vendor. Like getting my neb cups and tubing from Just Nebulizers. Also, for "durable" medical equipment, my Medicare + supplement only pay for the most basic of equipment. If I want a portable or mesh unit, I have to pay out of pocket.

I think you are probably correct in that Medicare will only pay for the most basic equipment. It's always been that way. Thus, we end up paying out of pocket for what we really need. I am doubtful that even if we have an Rx that Medicare will pay since what we really need is more than what they deem to be adequate for the job. But hey, other than that, I have great insurance and I am thankful I have it. So many are not this fortunate.

Sue, which portable nebulizer/compressor did you say you have preferred in recent years?
Also, what is a mesh unit??

National Jewish Health (known nationwide for its Pulmonology Department) in Denver recommended to me the Ombra compressor. I am a new patient and was happy to get this compressor in December of 2023.

I am interested in one that is more portable that can be used in a car, from what I understood.

DeVilbiss Traveler has been our family go-to portable for several years. I even use it at home.

A mesh unit is a handheld compressor with a mouthpiece directly attached. An impeller & a screen break up the liquid into droplets to be inhaled.

The only one I ever recommended was the Phillips Innospire Go, which is no longer made. The ones on Amazon and similar sites are not meant for rigorous daily use, and many cannot be sterilized.

Sue, have you found the Devilbiss to be strong enough to work with the Aeroclipse breath acutated nebulizers? Also, does it use a battery as well as plug in option?

I do noy use the Aeroeclipse - I found it too challenging for my breathing. I also do not use Aerobika while I neb for the same reason, so I cannot speak to the effectiveness.
The DeVilbiss has a great, long-life battery - over a dozen nebs between charges - I have never counted the exact nymber.

The devilbiss portable with the aeroclipse works well for me. I do not have the battery.

Thanks for your info! Do you also use the Aerobika with the Aeroclipse at the same time when nebulizing? If I'm looking at the same compressor that you have, it's hard to believe that such a small machine could handle it all.
