inflammation at C1, C2 of cervical spine causing cervicogenic headach

Posted by kathy513 @kathy513, Feb 5 9:25am

Has anyone received injections or ablation at C1, C2 for inflammation at this level of the cervical spine or any other treatments? Limited to what medications I can take due to Eliquis. Thank you!

I feel my headaches are following the occipital path but had 2 occipital nerve blocks that did nothing. That is why they are going after C1 and C2 and it scares me. They want to do an ablation at C2. Where did they do your ablation , the occipital nerve?

Thank you for sharing! How long ago did you have RFA? Did it work? I may be having it done at Mayo Jacksonville at C2. Most people on here claim that it is an uncomfortable procedure and that it did not work. I believe everyone is different. Did RFA work for you?

Sorry just saw your previous comments? My headache is cervicogenic but it follows the occipital path. I diagnosed myself with Occipital Neuralgia but had 2 occipital nerve blocks that did not work. 3 weeks ago I had a Dorsal Root Ganglion Block at c2 and it is helping somewhat so they want to do the RFA at C2 or the DRG at C1 but the Dr may not want to do that.

I tried to send you a private message withh directions supplied but the option is not available to me. I read further and saw that it is because I am a new member. The option is not available until you have been a member for a period of time. Not sure whst the period of time is, it just says "brief period of time" . Maybe you are able to send me a private message. I went to help center and it give directions on sending private messages in the selections.

I don’t know if this information will help but my friend has similar issues and she said she gets Botox injections every 2-3 months and that it has helped her tremendously. Worth asking about

Thank you! Once when I went to the ER the Dr mentioned that but I thought it was strange and he didn’t elaborate or say where ,who who administered them. Do you know where the Botox injection is given, what part of the body? Directly into C1C2 or just the general neck area?

I believe botox is injected where steroid injections are done, near the occipital nerves. Here’s a study. There are probably others online.
