Lexapro dizzy spells
Lately I have been dizzy when doing exercises. I went to my GP and had it checked out and he could find nothing wrong with me. I'm wondering if it is my 20mg of Lexapro now making me dizzy when I get up too fast after laying on my back doing exercise? I've been taking Lexapro for over 5 years now and never had any issues before.

I spent 20 years on Paxil and i thought it was losing being effective. Was put on Lexapro and been as high as 20mg a day and currently on 5mg, doesnt really seem to change things except for slightly more mild anxiety attacks every now and then. My main issue has been light head/dizzy , and doesnt seem to change regardless of dosage. Back of my head , and up to the top at times. Tight as heck muscles in neck and very sore neck muscles. Have done balance test and all kind of possible causes but no one locally seems to be able to assist. Next step is to get off them altogether and maybe go back to Paxil or another. Seems its hard to find doctors with good and measurable experience , thus speaking to others on the meds is better at times. Usually i will wake up and am fine , then short time later the symptoms start. Anything similar here?
Horrible getting off these meds horrible on them!
I had very bad stick neck , back , constant headache and dizzy being on Lexapro.
It works for some not me.
Find an amazing pharmacist that you can consult with that knows so much more than the Drs on these meds!
Advise weaning off so slowly maybe 6-8 weeks . If your Dr tells you just get off them they are low mg like mine did DONT use that advise.
Many recommend Geno testing to see which med is best for your DNA didn’t work for me .. rx suggested horrible side effects.
Check your blood sodium level.
After a few months taking 20 mg of Lexapro, I was having constant headaches, lightheadedness, and dizziness. My blood sodium was below normal.
I weaned of Lexapro, blood sodium went back to normal, and those issues disappeared.
Same here. Had to stop it.
I've been taking 20 mg/day for the past couple of years with occasional dizzy spells. I attributed them to my Parkinson's. But recently, for the past six weeks or so, I've been feeling dizzy all the time. I'll advise my doctor. It had been helping with my depression, but maybe it's run its course--time to try another anti-depressant or titrate off them altogether. Thanks for bringing this up.
I had dizziness fom lexapro, and my neurologist would not listen to me. I stopped taking it after 7 months. The dizziness went away. The neurologist wanted to blame the dizziness on something else. I know others who do not have a problem with even high doses of Lexapro.
I was the same way. Kept telling me “ give it time” it was hell with many other side effects.
I have tried many and all horrible side effects. Keep trying other avenues.
They can become deadly if taken with alchohol yet they don’t really tell you or neither does the pharmacist they just assume no education at all with these meds. It’s our society … feel bad .. pop a pill
This is like reading my own bio. 18 years on paxil then was getting weird sensations in my head occasionally and was changed to lexapro. 10mg , been as high as 20mg and as low as 2 which then triggered anxiety attacks. My nemesis is the dizziness in the back of my head. Constant tight muscles in shoulders and neck. Been to dizziness clinic , all was ok. No one can tell me anything . No doctors ever seem to have anything other than 'we can try this' or 'let's try another drug' it's so frustrating. If anyone has found any kind of info in this back of head issue please please message.
I haven been on Remeron, Prozac, Clonazepam, Cymbalta and other depression medicine. I found that all of them cause neuropathy, brain zaps, headaches, diarrhea and not hungry but I force myself to eat and am now overweight. I was, also, have dizzy spells, vertigo when I lay down, anxiety problems and depression. My whole body hurts. I was going to a re-hab center to get off the Clonazepam because 2 mgs per day was causing small seizures daily. The major problem I have is my psychiatrist, pcp and neurologist don’t believe me when I tell them things that are happening while using these medicines. All of them tell me it cannot be happening because that’s not an issue in there research or books of side effects. I, just, want to stay home now because people have made remarks about my head shaking, not being able to walk correctly and always being scared something else is going to happen. I even took a nerve testy for neuropathy but again the neurologist said I passed the nerve conducting test. I don’t have neuropathy. I do have neuropathy and can’t sleep anymore because of the pain in my body the pins and needles hurt like fire under my skin from the top of my bottom, stomach, both legs all the way to my toes. . The numbness is hard because anything that touches my body hurts badly even a/c or heat hurts. I blame the doctors for not listening to me and tell it has to be anxiety and depression. So sad I thought they would help me. I
even asked my psychiatrist and pcp to get me off the Lexapro and they tell me no. The last time I spoke with my psychiatrist and pcp both said I have anxiety and depression and my Lexaprox was upped again and if the Lexapro can be upped to 40mgs and 2 10 of Burspone every day. I just want off all medicines. I have sezures and after 20 years on Keppra has cause neuropathy I hope this help you and anyone who read this.

Unfortunately, your physicians seem to be of the “fundamentalist” kind, who have a very rigid and limited view of medicine and science in general. Those physicians go strictly by the books, without even imagining the variability in human responses.
Good science has a method but also an open and inquisitive outlook.
At the entrance of the Steenbock Library, in the University of Wisconsin-Madison, you can read: “Books must follow science, and not science follow books”.
