The idea is that sodium can help raise blood pressure (along with hydration) and thereby help the kidneys with their filtration job.

I recently went through an issue of low blood pressure. Extremely low. Even salty snacks were not helping. In the end, what was decided was to stop the low dose blood pressure meds I had been on for years [put in place to ease stress on my kidneys, not for high BP]. I am on daily peritoneal dialysis, and also increased my hydration slightly. I have to watch my intake of quality protein, seeing that said dialysis tends to rob my system of good stuff and protein is important to keep up. The albumin level is carefully checked each month. Happy to say it took 8 days but blood pressure now runs about 114/74 with no meds.
