Antidepressants or anxiolytics for sleep and pain management

Posted by mary4 @mary4, Feb 2 5:07am

I am in my 4 fourth year of PMR. On 3.mg pred and using the DSNS taper. Very slow. I suffer from insomnia. Was prescribed Zopiclone. Not a great drug for many reasons. Prided some relief for sleep and stiffness that keeps me up at night. I am vaguely aware that some members have been prescribed antidepressants for pain. I would like to explore a non addictive drug for nighttime pain and insomnia. Any experience with specific drugs used for sleep and pain? Thank you.

I did a drug interaction query, and found that your shouldn't combine Cannabis (THC) with Prednisone.

They both follow the same neural pathways - that's the gist- it got real technical really fast.

Bottom line, just like alcohol - the two shouldn't be combined.

If you search the internet with the question, “Is it okay to use
cannabis products while taking
prednisone?” , you will find positive (though cautionary)
responses.
Just as with pharmasuticals.

For great sleep and some pain relief I prefer small doses of
THC/CBD to anxiety, depression, and other drugs.

I do take them at bedtime and
prednisone in the early morning to lessen any interaction (I hope).

At 88, in assisted living, with
PMR since 2016, I reckon if it works use it.
I do keep my doctor aware of my proactivity on health and quality of life issues 🙏😇🌹

Drugs.com and other sites caution the combo.

At 88, you do whatever works for you! I am a proponent of THC/CBD, but have been very careful with everything I eat or drink since succumbing to this terrible malady.

The biggest improvement has been attained through my diet - my inflammation has subsided by eating clean.

I decided that I probably didn't need any Cannabis on this journey, for now anyway.

Glad to hear you are getting some relief.
