Vowst for CDiff

Posted by fr33dom7 @fr33dom7, Feb 1, 2024

Please share your experiences with Vowst for preventing cdiff recurrence. I am fighting my fourth cdiff recurrence since June 2023. I have been on Vancomycin three times and Dificid once. I am now on vancomycin again as required before beginning Vowst therapy. I am so tired, and worried.

@fr33dom7 Although I have not heard of vowst, I also had 3 relapses of cdiff back in 2018-19, had multiple treatments with vancomycin. Then I had the fmt via colonoscopy and so far, so good! I just don't understand why they make you go through 3 or more relapses before they offer fmt! I believe the maker of vancomycin has something to do with that. Anyway, wishing you the best of luck with vowst. Please keep me posted on your progress.

I had cdiff 5 times. The doctor prescribed Vowst. It is $9,100 but my doctor got it for me free. That was definitely an act of God. I took it the last of December and I have been cdiff free ever since. I definitely recommend it. The thought of it is tough but God sent me the cure and I took it. Hope this helps.

SO FAR IN MY LIE I HAVE HAD 3 BOUTS OF CDIFF . FIRST ONE WAS 20 YEARS AGO, 2ND. BOUT IN DECEMBER 2023
3RD BOUT IN JANUARY 2024. THE BMS ARE NOT WATERY , HOWEVER THE STOOL IS SOFT YET FORMED, MY QUESTION IS FOR ANYONE WHO HAS TAKEN VOWST. I ALRREADY TOOK THE PREP 18 HOURS AGO, AND I STILL HAVE SOME FECES COMING OUT. HAS ANYONE HAD THIS YET STILL TOOK THE VOWST. I HAVE A CALL INTO THE VOWST LINE, BUT I WAS JUST WONDERING IF ANYONE ELSE HAD THIS HAPPEN AND WHAT WERE YOUR SIDE EFFECTS AFTER INGESTING VOWST. THANK YOU

Hi everyone.... I ended up with C Diff after a colonoscopy in 2015. After repeated bouts of C Diff I have a fecal transplant in 2019. I was pretty much okay, until June 2024. I have been on Vancomycin many times and I had Dificid November 2024. Within a month, C Diff was back and I was back on Vanco. I had a colonoscopy February to rule out IBS or Chron's. Nothing showed up. Since I don't present with the typical C Diff symptoms, I think they tended to not take me seriously, but it was always C Diff. Testing did confirm what I already knew. I have always used probiotics and was using Florastor for years. From what I have read, Florastor is good for actual C Diff outbreak. It's a losing battle. I'm now in the process of receiving Vowst. I have never used it before and I'm hoping for a good outcome. I'm at my wits end.

I look forward to hearing about your experience with Vowst. Prayers sent for an excellent outcome for you.
May I ask what happened in 2024 that caused the C Diff infection again? Also, you mentioned that you don’t present with typical C Diff symptoms - may I ask what your symptoms were?

Hi,
Thanks for your prayers.
I have no idea what caused the 2024 outbreak. I wish I could pinpoint the cause.
My symptoms usually start with pain in the GI tract, which I believe is pretty normal.
The next step is that I discharge a yellow substance, at that time I start with the mucus and blood. The yellow stuff is always my tell along with the blood and mucus. I do not have bouts of diarrhea. I will have formed bm's which caused my GI doc to question the C Diff, that's why they requested the colonoscopy to rule out other GI issues. When I took my sample for testing, they wouldn't test because of formed even though there was blood and mucus very visible. Thanks again for your concern.

Hi Everyone,
I wanted to give you an update on Vowst. It will be delivered to me Tuesday, March 4th.
Under the advisement of my GI doc, I'm not to take it until I am two weeks off of probiotics. I would have thought taking probiotics would be a plus, but, i guess not. Anyway if you are considering taking Vowst, check with your GI doc regarding probiotics. I won't be taking Vowst until March 16th at the earliest.
