My gastroenterologist ridiculed me when I came in complaining of abdominal pain. Not my first visit for that.
This time he started poking randomly at my sternum and abdomen while making fun at me. I was close to tears.
I asked for my records and left, getting an appointment at Mayo.
The pain I complained of was the pain associated with MALS.

i've found that if they laugh. laugh with them. and if need be explain your problem. because EVERYBODY does it. it's a natural part of life. and some people have & do it more frequently.

What to do, though, if rather than laughter, they're disgusted? Because I have had people literally tell me that "everybody does NOT do it, you can keep from doing it if you'll just eat right and control yourself and stop being so disgusting!" (In my case, eating "right" to control it would mean never eating or swallowing again. So I'm not that desperate. Yet.)
Could you elaborate a little more on ridiculed by who...family/friends/medical professionals?
I've been made fun of by in laws, over 20 years ago. I handled them!! Make sure you speak up loud, and put them in check. I'm not afraid to speak.

Totally unacceptable behavior for anyone especially a doctor. So happy you took action and moved on. Best of luck to you.
All my life. When swallowing *anything* causes flatulence, people are either going to laugh or be disgusted.

Pretty good advice Danny. Laugh with em or back at em!
